“It’s important to act on immigration reform because we’re focused on jobs and economic growth, and this is about jobs and growth,” Boehner said in his pitch in the closed meeting.

I can't follow the logic behind these claims either.
Potential future voters is what both major political parties are salivating over

That is the only reason for that, I think they are trying to get the hispanic vote or be more appealing but they have been more democrat leaning though so its a shot in the foot.

Agreed, I often hear claims that the new influx of immigrants will take jobs that most legal americans won't. My thinking is that those jobs remain vacant for valid reasons such as crappy pay or shitty work conditions and would rather see these conditions imroved upon than filled by an influx of desperate new people.

Yeah exactly because making minimum wage to them is like having a high paying job in their home country, the real problem is what we have done to the Latin america's is what we have done to cause them to want to come to the us...

I don't see Pelosi and Boehner agreeing on border security and doubt any bill will come to pass. Even if one does pass the House, Reid likely won't bring it to a vote unless it is exactly what he wants.

History does repeat itself.
All this was done before back in 1986. Amnesty was given and the border with Mexico was supposed to have been secured after.

Gotta love the topic headers of your threads too.

I hold no party affilation myself. Very tired of the same old crap from the both Dems and Repubs. The Libertarians are looking better to me, but I voted on issues not party line.

I'm not sure they'll ever understand it's the law of supply and demand, not the theory of.

We have a glut of unskilled labor in this country that can't find good paying jobs because there is not enough to go around for any meaningful competition. Bringing in 10Million more unskilled laborers to compete for those jobs will only work to decrease demand making the shitty paying jobs even shittier paying.

I think some understand this but then I hear raise min wage to 10 an hour as an answer to this glut and I have to just shake my head in wonder.

actually, its more complex than crappy pay or shitty conditions.

the biggest area of illegal alien employment is seasonal farm labour during planting and harvest.

these jobs are NOT in the urban centers where most out of work americans live, they are in the countryside.

thses jobs are NOT steady, you work at one farm for a few weeks, and then you must pack up and move 50, 100, or even 1000 miles away to the next farm cluster that needs hands for the harvest.

this wont pay your mortgage, cant work for a family with kids in school, and in the end is they are jobs for people who do NOT have responsibilities which tie them to one locale.

for this reason, mexicans come north, and many of them go home to tend their own farms when the harvest in america is done.

many others stay here till the next season starts, doing day labour, or working under the table at any shitty job they can get till the next season starts and they go right back to the feilds, which actually pays pretty good if you can get shit done and dont mind hard work.

all the lefties who claim that mexicans are "taking jobs americans wont do" are idiots who dont know why americans CANT do these jobs.

those 10 million people are already here doing the jobs that they can't force parolees to do at $10 an hour, actually.

nice attempt at saying something though, you came so close.

I don't support amnesty, it's nothing but a handout of cheap labor to companies and trying to win votes.

Same with minimum wage, it's supporters stand on those people, instead of for them. We want better paying jobs? Tarrif imports from countries with slave labor and zero environmental laws. So what if Wall St don't like it, they have never been for the common working person.

import tariffs?

so you want an effective tax on the whole of america that is regressive and hurts the poor and middle class much more than the wealthy?

horrible idea.
