Definitely some great shows this season. Glad to see Overlord, Made in Abyss, and Dr Stone back. I liked Call of the Night out of the new shows, speaking of vampire anime...There might be one or two other new shows worth watching too...bunch of Isekai...And also the Yakuza Babysitter show was pretty good too. That is my assessment of the new season lol

I just finished binging Overlord & now I’m caught up with the new season…this thing is *twisted* in interesting ways. Glad I gave it 3 episodes.

Completed Last Summoner from Spring: this thing picked right up after I stopped following it. Almost a different show by the end, which is funny, weird, and entertaining.

Haven’t found a place to watch Call of the Night or Made in Abyss, they don’t seem to be on CR; a lot of the season is super-light, not really a bad thing, but October, OTOH….

I know y’all know me & my enjoyment of romcoms & such, but I watched 3 maybe-sketchy-by-reputation shows that kinda stand romcoms on their heads (kinda-sorta like Bunny Girl Senpai did): they’re all much more real and less tropey than romcoms, they’re dense & satisfying (for me) instead of light / silly / predictable, and even the most outrageous one has enough internal drive to keep things interesting. They’re not really very funny, either, though each has its moments…but what they really do is suck you in: instead of episodes that seem to last 5 minutes, these shows’ episodes seem to last and last. You get to the credits, check the time, check the episode # & then check it again & go “fuck, that was only 23 MINUTES?!? Only ONE episode? How did they do SO MUCH with that?”

Totally caught up in the story is a great way to go IMO

The three shows are:
- Rent-a-Girlfriend
- Higehiro
- Hinamatsuri (still working on this one)

Jeff, I don’t think I’m ever going to get to see Serial Experiments: Lain…it only exists as an image posted by you

all more mystery slice-of-life than romance, really; do as you will

It’s apparently only available used, starting price ~$80 for the DVD.

re: Overlord…I heard so much about it I figured it’d be no better than Jojo (season one was both good & bad, but it devolved into an annoying vampire-hunt so by the end of the first run, I was done) and I was NOT taken by the first ep. Glad I tried again.

Hope your recovery is entertaining you, Budman!

Made in Abyss is just brutal, every episode is so manipulative and tears at your heartstrings...I love it. Also, Isekai Ojisan is officially one of my favorite new shows this season, episode 3 had me rolling.
