my major bitch is the e bill . my bill came in today . and it was 95f and humidity of 90 % and every damn thing was running 24/7 and the house kept it a very cool 85 f the entire month fucking hot as hell when your trying to sleep . damn bill is nocking my socks off just to cool it control humidity . was 750 . I was thinking 400 tops mabe 500. 750 not including lights fans I am not going to say my total bill that's my fault so I cant bitch . but come on 750 that's bull shit . not like I could suck air from out side in with 90 % humidity . wtf . next year I will shut it all down that time of year for a few months and clean and redo things . my other bitch is moving all the soil those bags keep getting heavier year after year . so yeah fuck super hot weather never again its on my next years calendar shut down for 3 months .

I learned my lesson this year with temps in the midwest. I used a 5A dehu that ran almost 24/7 and a 12K btu portable AC with only 400W of cob led lighting and had my higher bills to date -and nanners on my buds to boot. Im done with the summer time grows as well until I can get my rooms fully drywalled and sealed.

mine is insulated to the max . have the proper size ac . but yea if its 95 or 99 out side your ac will run . next year like I said turning every thing off that time of year . the finished stuff is not that great because I had settle with higher then suggested temps or even a higher bill . not worth it no matter what you do . well if you only had a tent then no big deal . damn cherry tomatoes .lol

Just be glad that's while you're trying to actually keep something of importance cool. Not just your partner running the ac at max 24/7 because she misses winter.

After having an $800 electricity bill. I started taking the remote away. Only leaving the ac to take off a few degrees from the expected heat. Rather than to enter a house that's 17°c when it's 38^ outside. Sittin in a nice 27°c wasn't going to kill her. Sure saved my pocket next run.

Wouldnt a more heat tolerant strain like an african or some sativa strains be more suitable for those hot summers?
True, this would be the smart alternative but there are also height restrictions I encounter in my smaller rooms. Being a hydro guy, I use flood tables/buckets etc and factoring in eveything between the table, pot, light and space between tops & lights etc I end up with about 3' of actual plant grow height in a less than 7' room. Plus I had to run a dehu most of the summer and they work great at pulling moisture from the room, but they also give off a ton of heat which makes the AC run constant. Its a brutal cycle.

With that kind of bill it night be worth talking to @ttystick.

Shit,a power bill of $750 would make me jump for joy,the lowest my Con Ed bill for electric & gas gets is $2,000 a month,July & August of 2016 cost me $3,200 each month because of the heat & humidity .

I saved myself over $500 a month by switching from hydroponics using mediums to flood & drain using covered flood tables with no medium "hydraton"in the tables or net pots, with all 8 tables covered the buildings air conditioning is able to keep humidity below 30% without the use of stand alone dehumidifiers, setting my rez's in the concrete floor allowed me to save $ even more by eleminating all 8 chiller units I was running, between both mods to my grow method I knocked about a grand a month off my electric bills.

Another mod I did to save $ is I installed dampers in my lights exhaust ,in the winter months I close the dampers on each exhaust line, which reroutes all heat from 30 hoods into the ducts of the HVAC unit, the sensor in the heat exchanger notices the heat increase ,then kicks the blower on & pushes the free heat thru the entire building ,that mod saved me about $200 a month.

I live in the Midwest also and while my summer grow is the most problematic I get it done in a shed without AC.
Couple things...no need to dehumidify up through about the 3rd week of flower. My plants love a bit higher heat with a nice high humidity. Of course, come flower the nighttime is the lighttime. Why are you running a dehumidifier and AC? AC should accomplish both. Also, I have a powerful exhaust fan to pull heat out and the shed is mostly in the shade and the passive intake always on the shady side. No need to take that break.

...couple more things. If you are vegging, go 18/6 with the 6 during the hottest periods. Lastly, if going through a series of hot days my plants get watered every day...not fully but 1/2 gallon in every 5 gallon pot every day

I run hydroponics so my situation is a bit different than some who can have their pots in high temps. I dont run chillers on any of my systems.
In a nutshell I have mother nature dictate when I run (for the time being). I have filtered outside air come into the room to bring the temps down, scrub the funk in the air, then run through the lights and exhaust back outside. Basically like this:

I can run like this about 8 months out of the year. The exhaust fans are thermostatically controlled and the heater only comes on when the lights are off. The other months the room gets closed off with 2 - 6" vent caps then I run a closed room with AC and a dehu since my 12Kbtu AC unit just didnt keep the RH under 65-70% this past summer. I tried running this past summer and mother nature kicked my ass. Im going to need to finish my rooms off and make them 100% sealable to be able to run in the summer with AC. I have them fully insulated, but not drywalled or finished. Considering this and the fact that they are attached to rooms with uncontrolled environments there are likely leaks of hot summer air pulling from room to room killing my AC's efficiency.

Ahhh..gotcha. Well, finish the damn room. ;)

In your last post i bitched on med patients but for this post id like to bitch about growers who think having a seedling jammed up under t5s is good....

I hate your short slow compact efforts, they look unnaturally crap!!!

Fuck, he'll get little sympathy from me! Besides, he starts too many bitch threads. Lol
My point is anyone with a big bill like that should invest into a system like yours.

It would pay for itself.

This is what I hate about the US energy argument. For some reason people simplify the situation to the point if there isn't ONE single magic cure the fuck it.

We all need to do our part. Could you imagine the difference if everyone reduced their usage by 15-25%?

Couple what you did with some solar and we can make a difference.
