Another kooky question from Ghost...

Hope I get an answer, heh.

Anyhow, I believe I had read something about putting hydroton balls on top of your soil in potted plants to retain moisture and to help keep soil from being displaced when watering...

With no hydroton balls available/affordable I was thinking about using a cedar mulch and herein lies my problem.

The cedar 'mulch' I can get my hands on is in the form of a cedar satchet a la http://cedaramerica.com/product_info.php?cPath=20&products_id=63

From what I can tell it is just shredded up cedar inside the bag, and I cannot seem to find any mention of chemicals/additives or anything on the website.

Does anyone think it would be safe to use? (Perhaps after boiling, just in case?)
Should I use it at all?

Cedar does help repel insects too, right?

Well, thanks for reading at anyrate... hopefully I'll get some kindof answers.
