So this isn't new groundbreaking science but it's how I've been cloning for years with extremely good success rate probably around 95%
I did a quick Google search on the subject and it seems like everyone advises against it saying it doesn't work
It couldn't be any more simple
2 plastic shoeboxes for dome
Fill one with a few inches of perlite
Saturate fully
Place cutting inside and cover with "dome"
Sometimes I use cheap rooting powder it only speeds the process up a day or two for me
Sometimes I'll cut tips of fan leaves but not sure it that's bro science
It works either way half the time I just cut stem at 45* and stick it in but I prefer to trim the tips so as not to crowd the cuttings
I've also always used very minimal lighting
During the winter it takes about two weeks and in summer about a week
Seems people feel that perlite will let in too much air and not block light but once It is wet it stays moist for about a month
I forgot to put the lid back on for a few hours so they look bad in the pic But these should all root fine they have been green and perky for about ten days I think so they will be rooting in a couple days
It's a little precarious to remove the roots from the perlite but with a fork or a finger I dig around clone and give it a little tug I've never killed one or had any incident the fragile little root hairs are strong
I don't use thermometers any more but heat seems to be the only variable that speeds up or slows down cloning in this fashion
I rarely lose a cutting an when I do it's usually bc I left a small leaf touching the substrate and a little mold will grow ? It doesn't seem to spread and I also crack the dome daily and as long as there's no fan sometimes I can leave it cracked the last few days of rooting
It's not the fastest method so maybe that why people say it doesn't work but Ive seen roots in a week on some strains
On average it takes about two weeks to see any roots and a day or two after that I get them out bc I dot want Them tangled I have figured how to tell they are growing roots bc the lower fan leaves seem to yellow up like the plant is using them for energy and then I'll notice new growth tip
I know cloning is an elementary process but maybe this will help someone having trouble
I haven't used any rapid rooter plugs in about 5 years bc this hasn't failed me yet it's lit with a few ten watt Cfls so my cloning area is very efficient just a few ways and a lot of clones
I'm rambling now
