I just joined and posted my first thread a couple days ago.. Got a couple views but no replies, I was wondering why then after reading about how to never buy a complete hydro setup either online or from a store I knew why.. In my thread i showed all the equipment that i thought i needed. the most expensive thing being the hydro NFT setup shown here at this link below for 500.00 dollars. I thought that was a great deal, but i didnt realize that i could just as easily build one for half the cost.. I have done a good bit of reading on growing ie:soil vs. hydro and I would choose to try hydro as my personal favorite.. I have a spare bedroom in which I will be able to use. It is about 10x10x7ft. and wanted the NFT system for the 6 plants.. Any help on how to build a efficient NFT system similiar to the one at the link, would be appreciated.. Again, thanks in advance for all the help..

I like the looks of that system. Potpimp posted a build for NFT for a contest we had not long ago. I had not seen a table built like that one looks where the light was hung etc. with the res under it. It would be easy to build. I may have to just do that. VV

yea its looks like it would be a great system.. and i will have to check out the one that POTPIMP had posted.. i just really like the NFT type system and thts what i am "gunho" ready to make if you know what i mean.. and the light hanging from above was pretty cool seeing tht you can extend the hanging arms to raise if your plants grow BIG.. but thanks for the reply and if you decide to build let me kno and i will try to.. i just have no clue where to start, so if we both built one we could compare the results :joint:.. peace

I would have to say that system is very over priced. FutureGarden sells their Green Machine system for the same price and that is a system with a similar setup but is aeroponic. An NFT system of that size should NOT cost anywhere NEAR that much. I just built an experimental Ultrasonic system but it is essentially a converted NFT. Using some PVC fence poast, a tupperware storage bin, a small pump an an $8 shelf from walmart, it really comes out to no more than $200. At that price you could afford a really nice light, digital ballast and even a 600w upgrade... but if your not the building type, this is a much better system for the same price...

Greenmachine aero hydroponic systems by FUTUREGARDEN

NFT is the oldest commercial hydroponics system, due to the slow moving nutrient solution and the extremely shallow depth of the water, you are prone to root rot, fungal, bacterial and insect issues. On top of that the growth rates aren't that great and for the first several weeks you have to water from the top down till roots establish themselves. The Green machine (with 400w light) is the same price as the NFT you were looking at but will not require top-down watering, will show AMAZING growth rates and in the end, may very well be easier to handle.

I thought 500.00 was a bit much too for such a simple looking system. I guess I need to do ALOT more reading on the aeroponics setups as well. If I wanted to build one similiar to that Greenmachine would it be difficult or could a beginer do it.. I like that fact that it is the hydro/aero combo.. I would love to build my own, but since this will be my first hydroponics grow I think it would be smarter to buy a complete setup as opposed to hand making.. Is it safe to buy a complete setup like the GreenMachine on the Internet.. Or should I just go by that design and just buy the pieces from separate places and put together myself??

for a beginner it's usually best to buy a complete system, the little things are what fuck up aeroponics easily. It is a rather easy build though, but if you want to have a third option you can buy the green Machine components and make your own to your own specs. I only wanted 2 channels, not 4, so I built my own but for $80 I could have just bought theirs as separate parts... and they are already setup for almost any kind of hydro/aero system you could want to use. It's a great option for an easy custom build.

Thanx, notherntights I think that I will buy the complete GreenMachine for my first grow.. I read somewhere where its not smart to buy a complete though, is this true, or should it be safe to order the whole setup??
