I wonder where SocataSmoker is now. He's assuredly a pilot. I flew gliders half a lifetime ago. A friend who's flown many types of towplanes disagrees and maintains that that qualifies me as nothing beyond a skydiver who can't even get that right.

Yeah I could have sworn we had at least one, I just couldn't remember his name. I'm really interested in looking into this, the next town over has a small airport that offers pilot lessons! I'm just curious about a few things.
Average cost per hour = $50, but I believe that could only be for the aircraft (fuel and such), not sure if that covers the cost of the trainers salary too.. 40-70 hours to obtain the license, I could do that an hour a week in 8 months. That's something I've always wanted to do.

when my dad was young and in high school he worked at the dole factory in hawaii canning pineapple. he said it was terrible he would get cuts and the juice would get into it.
it would be real cool to be a pilot. i enjoy skating which i feel "free" when im skating around cause i can go pretty much anywhere. a plane would be 10 times better! i want to learn also but dont have that kind of money. great thing to have or beable to do if you can when you retire.

I carried my private pilots license for about 10 years.
Just single engine VFR. Never got my insrument or multi-engine ratings. Although I could fly my buddies Bonanza on instruments.
Learnng to fly was a kick!
Your first solo, will really make you pucker!

I've missed all of you too haha... been a tad busy in the real world with flying actually, getting more ratings... spending more money

I got my license to fly in 1974 so I don't have as much experience as many although I have time in many interesting types. I put myself through the early years of my undergrad hauling cargo in DC-3's.
But I still do not get 2 things jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and DELIBERATELY setting yourself up for a no engine emergency landing (gliding)! I did crash once.
Back in 1976ish and that one landing sans engine made me question any glider pilots sanity. I mean seriously time after time volunteering for a power off landing... nope not me, thank you very much. Now I know you're slightly tilted Cannabineer LOL not to mention the size glider it must take to get a polar bear off the ground, in.
Padawanbater2 look for the FSS nearest you. Go in and ask the guy who is filing the flight plans for the pilots to recommend a competent CFI.
