I use pro mix bx
I like bx, but it holds alot of water. I try to use the hp but it was hard to get for a bit so I went with bx. It's literally just the ratio of perlite to peat everything else is the same. Sometimes I cut it 50/50 because I have a few bails of bx laying around or you can just buy some extra loose perlite and mix it in

Yeah bx was tricky to learn its pretty much 100% peat very little perlite. I learned i can keep plants in a smaller pot longer with it as it holds more moisture, but i also have to be careful how i up-pot.

If i up pot too large, i will drown the roots. Usually i just up-pot more often and smaller or just water the root ball for awhile until it fills out the new pot.

Its not like coco with alot of perlite, very easy to drown plants in it if not done correctly.

When I up pot I 'pre mix' the bx with water until it's wet but not saturated. Then I plant and don't water for 2 days or so. Once it starts to dry then I'll water just a bit and give more each time until roots are strong

That may be a better idea than what im doing, i should really get it to field capacity first instead of watering in, that would be optimal. Thanks for mentioning it.

I prefer the Sunshine 4 Advanced. Has coco already in it. I don’t add perlite and don’t miss it. Pro Mix BX retains moisture. The HP is High Porosity and dries out faster. Both are good. But the Sunshine 4 plain or Advanced are way cheaper than Pro Mix.

I can't imaging using something that dries slower than HP... As it is I water/feed once every 4 days.

Seems like a long time.
I need to water every 2 days. Can stretch 3 before they flowering but it'll be pretty dry
Yeah, I'm in 5g bags using the Pro-Mix HP+ my RH in the tent remains in the 60-65% range until later in flower, then I lower it to about 50%. I water every 4 days (for example, watered in the evening Monday 4/4,won't do it again until Friday evening at the earliest, and sometimes I go the extra day and make it 5 without problem.

I'm not one of those 'wait until it droops' waterers either...leaf-stem turgidity is still where it should be with no drooping or withering. I water/feed annoyingly slowly and methodically, preferring to use a 1L watering can with a super small diameter spout. And generally do 1.5 to 2 gallons depending on when in the cycle with 1 to 1.5L of runoff.

While I've always done an alternating water/feed schedule, since the frequency is 4ish days I've started to add a lower dosage of nutrients to my 'water' days as well as the fuller amount on feed days. So, for instance I did 2g of Maxi on Monday (my watering day, also recharge and a bit of molasses to feed any microbial life) and on Friday/Sat I'll do a feed, that'll be 6g of Maxi, 1g of epsom, and a bit more molasses.

I haven't used that mix but looking at the ingredients there's nothing wrong with it. Very similar to BX and HP with the addition of a little coco coir and gypsum. Should be fine to use.

I don’t use the organic garden mix but I use same brand premium moisture. It’s not bad… not great either. Just what Wally World has

SInce we're on the subject... I was thinking of going with this for my next run. Says it can expand from 3 cf to 6 cf? Anybody got experience this? Going in 7 gallon pots, So do I need to calculate for 3 cf or 6?
It fluffs up. Extremely compressed. I like it. Beware mine requires soap at first as a surfactant. Calculate somewhere in between is my suggestion. But it’s my current medium of choice.

Yucca is suggested as a mix in for better early water absorption. .

edit add: I don’t add perlite to Sunshine 4 Advanced and don’t miss it. It dries fairly quickly and I like that.
