i'm am old head and my first rave was probably around 1992 or so, which is also the first time i've done mdma..
raves at that time were super new in the area i lived in.. you'd get a flyer with a number and have to call an hour before to find out where it was... would usually have to call like 4 or 5 numbers to get the addy..
you'd show up at the addy, it was usually in some industrial part of town.. everything would be old warehouses, empty, bad neighborhoods, and the only life you would see or hear was the bass echoing from some quasi cleaned out space, with a huge line of people at the door..
get inside and everyone would be blowing their whistles to the beat, find your preferred drug of choice, which at that time was basically lucy or molly.. would be a dj setup in a corner, and a good lighting system.. usually no sort of security was in sight, nor was it needed.. never saw a fight, never saw anyone getting robbed, and plur was never even a thought..
they eventually progressed out of the warehouses and into a few small clubs, that were either usually a gay club who would allow ravers in on say saturday nights, or a group of ravers would rent out some sort of hall from an unexpecting owner, those were always great when someone from the hall would be around and witness what was taking place, usually a lot of drag queens, and the showy raver crowd.. was always funny watching their jaws drop as they watched what went down..
slowly clubs that specialized in raves would open up.. i think this is when they started to go down hill honestly.. long lines at the door, admittance being slowed down by aggressive security checks at the door, people who only heard about raves on the local news station going, $5 glasses of water, etc, etc, etc.. i think this is when plur came around to be the cool phrase to break let people know you were really a scenester and not someone who only heard about raves on the 11 o'clock news.. nothing about peace, love, unity and respect imvho..

i pretty much stopped going a year or so after the candy kids had arrived on the scene, but i did go back for a year or two after they left, very late 90's or so.. haven't been to a party in ages, but i don't think they're anything like i remember and am better off simply living with the memories then having them destroyed by actually going to a party now..
