Can.i. did you get to hear the L.E.A.P. presentation last night?

:leaf::peace::leaf:
No but I'm interested. What did they have to say.

I can't believe that the Farmacy was passing out lemonade and gelato. It's crazy and certainly against the law. There were no referrals being asked for. I had one of the Norml guys stop me and tell me that my shirt with the big leaf glued on it was cool but against the rules.

I did not go, but I have joined their email list after seeing some of their videos. I still would not be a fan of cops after the end of prohibition, but at least they would not be at war with my soul anymore.

The OK City billboard was shown on CNN, but they purposely did not mention even the name of LEAP or that it will be traveling around the state for a year.

I love your shirt, you did a great job. But I was wondering how it would go over with the rules...I take it there was no smoking at the after party?

Having been a single father of 2 boys for the last 10 years (parents on the east coast) I was surprised at how many actual single fathers there are - not in name only. There is an interesting paper written by Institute for Research on Poverty/University Wisconsin-Madison called Myths About Custodial Fathers that states

Among the myths that Meyer and Garasky dispel are
the following: (1) custodial fathers always have high in-
comes; (2) there are not many custodial fathers; (3) most
custodial fathers have remarried; (4) most custodial fathers
are widowers, and all were married at some time; and (5)
custodial fathers primarily receive custody of older boys.

Which is kind of opposite of what was stated in the above post. If anyone is interested the link to the paper is www.irp.wisc.edu/publications/focus/pdfs/foc142c.pdf
Things are - and have been changing

I hope I don't bring out the haters here but wouldn't it be nice if no one could have children without some sort of licensing? I see the young celebutants having babies because it's cool. Scary.

BUT, enough baby talk. I'M LOOKING FOR A MAN! Come on RUI people. I LOVE you. Help!!!!

I was about to totally recant...and will a little.

I just read through the article. First of all none of these "myths" were myths to me and I suspect they were transparent to you as well.

Then all the article says is that there has been a dramatic increase in the non-stereotypical, father headed, single parent households since 1973. No doubt.

Here is where I will recant a bit as the percentage is higher than I had thought: 15% of all single parent households are headed by a father only.

But this includes the stereotypical (widowers, older boys, wealthier) and non-stereotypical.

So it was something like 48% of all households are headed by a single parent so, 15% of the 50% is...about 7.5% of all households are headed by single fathers...significantly more than I thought.

Sorry for the spam, I'll stop now;-)

Edward Abbey thought parenting should be taxed so that only parents that really want to be parents will afford it. He also suggested giving cash incentives or scholarships to girls to have their tubes tied and not have babies...the ones that would jump at $4000 would not be good mommies anyway, and should they have a child, it costs the state many times more.

I can only hope that his post will keep your thread at the top and Can.i. will find her true grow love:mrgreen:

That's a good idea. I'll vote for it. I'm sure it will never pass though. Humans are so afraid of evolution.

Thank you!:bigjoint:

I never said it was rough! Quite the contrary. It is THE life. Only gratitude everyday. I often wonder how I got to be so lucky.
