Does anybody have good tips for harvesting, once I have deemed my crop is ready for harvest?

What is the best way to remove the buds?

Are there any special precautions I should take when removing the buds?

My golden answer is dry it slow and dark.

As for on how to cut. That's up to you

I clip and flip personally. Short trim wet and the rest dry.

But dry it SLOW

Temp around 70 F, RH in the low to mid 60's, small fan aimed at a wall and away from your buds. Some people like 70 F, 70 RH for 7 days but the RH is a little too high for my comfort.

I wet trim for starters...
Cut the branches off and go down them removing all the leafs except those with resin.
There's two distinct sort of leafs you'll soon see there's ones with and without resin, once all the primary leaves are off its time to trim the resinous ones, it's good to have a selection of scissors for different stages, take the worst off wet then finish them at your leisure when dried.

When taking the cuts off the plant, plan them so you make little hooks and "V"s as much as possible. This is easy when cutting from the main stem because you use the node corner and main stem to make the hook but, may get tricky with smaller cuts and the top cola. Do that and you don't have to worry about binder clips or anything like that. Also, plan the size of the branches so that they fit in your drying space and buckets (if cleaning).
