Anybody have any neat ideas for kief extraction devices?

So the very best kief comes off first? What would happen if you ran it all day would the tumbler start to produce nothing or leafy crap kief? Why do people melt it down? What are you getting rid of? Thanx!:leaf:

Yes the less you run it the better quality you will have because the trim or bud doesn't break down to tiny dust particles which mix with the kief. And different size trichombs come off both different parts of the plants and different strains and outdoor vs indoor mj tends to have different size trichomb heads so finding the best size mesh sizes for the products you are running also matters. And the larger the mesh size, the more crap you will have mixed with your kief.

The term full melt means pure good quality hash that melts when heated. If you have plant material and other crap mixed in with it then it won't melt completely; it will more burn and char while some of it will melt.

If you just kept running the extractor eventually all the resin heads would be extracted and the plant material just gets more and more beat up and ground finer and finer ruining the hash.

The ground and frozen buds lie on a 150 micron stainless screen, with a Nylon plate resting on top, to which is attached a palm sander. The horizontal shear action of the sander breaks off the trichomes, which fall though the mesh into the cookie sheet, that the thing sits in on rubber feet.

The skirt around the edge of the plate keeps stuff from flying off at the crack between the plate and frame, and there is an adjustable stretcher bar on the bottom tensioning the screen.
Hey FD, the 10% you got in 3 minutes, was that full melt quality?

You could make a Kief box you can keep your stash in there and give it a shake once in a while. I had a buddy that built one that was 2x4 feet for drying and curing. He would give it a quick shake every day and when the bud was ready to smoke he had a mountain of Kief.

I did the same thing sorta many moons ago, I used 2 Tupperware container, one as is, one cut on the bottom with a 110 screen that went into the other one. Basically my nugs rested on the screen and kief would fall on the bottom. Worked out well but I never really shook it, had a different box for that but still very creative of your friend.

I made myself a tumbler a few years ago.
It worked well but dry ice is hard to find around here.
One place I can buy it costs me $6.00 per pound and it's more like dry frost.

The bucket idea is cool if you can find dry ice for cheap.

I made a tumble from the idea: https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/409110-diy-hash-tumbler-poor-mans.html

My old, dead furnace had a humidifier attached that still worked.

First I cut it half.
I took it apart and cleaned as much lime scale from it.

I put 4 small wood screws through the plastic humidity wheel, cut a piece of plexi glass and used rubber bands to hold the glass in place.

Not sure of the size I used but hot glued the silk screen around the wheel.

Loaded it with a bit of trim and dry ice, screwed the wheel on the motor and let it run.
Had some nice kief in a few minutes.

In action!

I put a cassette case under the wheel for this experiment and collected some kief.

All in all I would stick with the buckets and bubble bags.
Seems a hell of a lot easier.
