Anyone had light bleaching before?

So since my first grow took forever (flowered for 5 months under some CFLs) decided to buy a 600W HPS still inside my closet.... Big mistake. My plants look horrible I don't even want to take pictures (maybe I will, idk I'm ashamed) so I bought a tent that was the highest in inches I could find so the light will be further away, is there maybe some hope? They've been flowering about 9 weeks there is some bud but it looks burnt and orange there is absolutely no green color on any of my plants. Inside my closet the light was only 6 inches away from the tops and even though I kept my temps cool with an AC and vents the light was still too much. With the tent the light is 15 inches away, can they bounce back enough before I chop them or at least a little bit to make it worth it I've got 4 girls I was really looking forward to.

It doesn't sound good, but you're going to have to post some pictures I'm afraid....promise not to rip into your shame ;)

Pretty much broiled those babies at a 6" distance with a 600w HID. Even 15" is pretty close unless the fixture is sealed and exhausted. I run my 400w at 12" without burn, but it's also in a sealed fixture.

Important to use a canopy fan and blow up towards the light. Damage might be permanent, but plants are pretty resilient and might recover. Good luck.

Drop your hand under the light at the plant canopy level (palm down) for a couple minutes. If it feels hot raise the light. I start out at about 48" on my seedlings and bring it in over a week to give the plants time to adapt to the light. Bummer to lose the time.

If they don't recover make some hash out of them. It won't be a total loss! Heat probably shut down further THC development, but you might have enough still on the plants for a good batch ya know?

Fuckin A dude! You are this much closer to huge frosty colas. My girlfriend and I are just finishing up grow #2. Not the greatest but much better than my first. In another month when we start our third round it will be nice because we have everything ready. It wont be a purchase as the issues arise kind of thing. Even with a plan we had money issues and purchased things late. I am sure this will slightly lower our overall yield.

With a 600 watt I would stay about 20 inches away maybe 18. Unless a closed hood and air cooled. Kick ass dude. Bigger better buds next time!

look ready to smoke :D

cut your losses and start over, if you cant keep it more then 15" away you need to look in to a cool hood/tube and as my Bro said a fan to draw hot air away from the plant`s

look in to some kind of training, scorg/LST so you can keep your plants low and more bushy and further away from the light, tho 15" is pretty much spot on, with a cool hood on

And my dumb @$$ thought I was under fertilizing them not burning them up or else I would've done something sooner. I have a dimmable ballast I would've turned the power down since the light was too close and maybe that would've helped

That's ok dude, your next grow will be much better I promise, anyway to answer the question I had some light bleaching with cool tubed 400 at less than 6 inches and currently have my 600w cool tube at 9 inches with acceptable temps (we are in winter here however) Good luck!

I might have over looked it ? but what kind of ventilation do you run in there ?

when I used a 600W I had a cool hood on it and a 6 inch ventilation pulling hot air out of my grow room witch is 3x7x7 ft

with normal temperatures around 24C in my house, it fast became +34C in there with a 600W

with a 6" ventilation I could keep it around 30C

running it at night and I could get it further down to around 28C

but first when I did add a cool hood I could keep them perfect temps around 24-27C

now I run LEDs and really don't have the same problems

tho light bleach I got, but that was from keeping the LEDs to close as they more or less produce no heat

DSC01888.jpg

notice the white spots in the center of the plants/light, thats light bleaching from strong LEDs at 12" (need to be at 15-18" I found)

remember, all we try to do is grow MJ indoors as we for some reason cant grow em outdoors, so its up to us to make a environment where they can thrive, that means temperatures around 20-30C and a humidity around 30-70% and good air exchanges/circulation

a chart more:

View attachment 2759868

according to my light meter the cool hood/tube will block maybe 10% of the light, but your also able to keep it 30% closer witch make a hugh different with any artificial light
