Unplugged power cord alarm

I am looking for an alarm that goes off if a power cord comes unplugged and keeps going off until you plug the cord back in.

I have searched for quite a while on the internet trying to find something like this that is premade and am very surprised I could not find anything.

I have found a circuit schematic that shows exactly how to build a device that snaps onto a power cord and measures the electrical field that is emitted. you do not have to plug this device in it runs on 2 N cell batteries and it does not make any direct contact with the inside of the power cord. and it starts to beep after the power cord is unplugged for 8min. This is EXACTLY what I am looking for but the only problem is I can't read circuit schematics. just looks like hydroglyphics to me.

If somebody can help me find out where i can buy something like this my clones in the EZ Cloner will be very appreciative. allready lost a few batches cause of forgetting to plug it back in. :cuss:

most people just use a timer

I run the EZ cloner 24 x 7. but even if I did use a timer that still would not help me from forgetting to plug it back in after i check ph and ppm. I am not going to wait until the time goes off until I check the water if I was using a timer.

Thanks for um... Thanks?

ups power supply should have an alarm when the power is cut, it will also run your pumps for a little while if there is a power failure

I am looking for something to remind me to plug the EZ cloner back in after i check the roots and water. cause I am such a stoner I can not remember. Yes in the 10 seconds it takes me to check the water I somehow forget. I do have a UPS on my flood tables and it is great. would not recommend running ebb & flow without one. but the UPS would not remind me to plug the EZ back in after i checked it. Well unless i unplugged the ups instead of the ez i guess, then the alarm would go off but then the ez would still be running and i would have to unplug it and now when i am done checking ez i have to plug the ups back in and still remember to plug the ez back into the ups. It just amazes me there is no company that makes a device exactly the same as the schematics I posted.

This might be a dumb question, why not just post a note next to the cloner to remind you to plug it in.
Notes don't work very good for me, tried them before. It is not forgetting to plug the cloner in while I am standing at it but coming back to plug it in. Usually something comes up like a phone call and I walk away from the cloner with all intentions of coming back in 5 or 10min and plugging it back in but don't end up remembering to go back to the room for a day or so. This happens about once every 3 months .

Am I the only one that is that much of a stoner and has this problem hehe.

the schematic i linked to looks like it would be easy and cheap to make. and looks like it would be a very useful devices for any piece of equipment that is supposed to be plugged in at all times. or even as a safety device for babies to warn if they are unplugging plugs and about to put there finger in a socket.

How about this? When you unplug the cloner, just hold the plug in your hand while you check your stuff? When you're all done you say "Hey what's this plug for?" - - - - "Oh yeah!".

...or one of those occupied signs that you flip over. A note you put at the entrance of your room or on the floor, something simple.

I could draw up something with a relay but it will cost more than what it is really worth.

Yup would be great if I had 3 hands. It takes 2 of my hands to check the cloner. so need the 3rd one to hold the cord I guess. plus my cloner sits about 6 ft off the floor with the cord on the floor and the way it is situated I can not hold the cord and reach the cloner at the same time.

ok this blows my friggen mind!!! why not just leave the cloner pluged in while you check??? is the cord to short or something?? well add an extention cord!!! i'd duct tape that shit together so i wouldn't unplug it if I had this problem!!

Refer to post #7 please. Notes do not work for me I block them out. Too many marketing classes I guess. My subconscious must see every sign or note hanging as an advertisement or something and I completely ignore them. I even have a soft board calendar hanging on the room's door and it is on August of 2009 right now.

Did you look at the schematic that I linked to. I have been looking at it closer trying to decipher the hydroglyphics and it is looking easier and easier to make. and does not look that expensive to make either. I am in the middle of looking the parts up and making a price list. The only circuit chip the thing takes is an 74HC4060 14-stage Ripple Counter Oscillator and that is only $5 after shipping. The other parts look pretty cheap and easy to get also a few resistors, diodes, NAND gates, and some other miscellaneous items. While I have been looking up prices there is one item that I am having trouble finding though and that is the field sensor plates. Maybe they go by another name? Depending on the price of those I think I might be able to build it for around $50 or so. and as far as costing more than it is worth I don't know. I am willing to pay $100+ for something like this that I could just go to the store and pick up or order online. How much is loosing a couple batches of 60 clones a piece worth any way? I know those Bubba Kushs would of been worth a lot more than $100 had they survived. plus all the time I spent taking the cuttings in the first place. that is worth even more to me then the clones I lost.

Yup it blows my mind also that nobody makes one of these devices I am looking for. I can think of a lot of uses for one.

and have you ever used an EZ Cloner?????????

In order to check the ph, ppm levels and look at the roots while the thing is running you would need a rain coat and then a mop and bucket once you got done.

what about a circuit breaker for when you lift the lid, as soon as its lifted power cuts off, as soon you put it back down again power goes on.

I don't know where to get one of these either, just a thought I had

ive quoted the best answer.
Not really. Please refer to posts 12 & 7 plus the original answer.

The closest anybody has come to answering the question witch was "Anyone know where I can buy something like this ???" is

ups power supply should have an alarm when the power is cut, it will also run your pumps
for a little while if there is a power failure
i can run several pumps off of the ups and even though I would have to unplug the ups and the ez the constant beeping of the unplugged ups would not let me forget to plug both back in.

or this was a good suggestion for the original question also.

But apparently I am the only person that has a need or just wants a device like this so now I am thinking of building it since somebody has gone to the trouble of designing a schematic for it and the longer I look at it the more I think it is going to be easy teaching myself how to build it. so far looks like the hardest part is finding the parts.

Looks like you could get most of that stuff from a standard electronic components store.

http://library.thinkquest.org/10784/circuit_symbols.html

that might help you to figure out what everything is if you haven't got that far yet.
