I see everyone using beerpong cups to start their plants and was wondering if there are a disadvantages to just starting in a 2 gal pot? Don't really feel like transplanting after 2 weeks and would just rather skip a step.

i don't see anything wrong with starting in bigger containers.. they reguire less watering, and you won't have to transplant them ... i am not sure why peps start seedlings in such small pots sometimes... i am sure there must be a good reason for it, but i don't think starting in a bigger pot wll hurt anything..

that's what I figured, just after seeing hundreds of growers start in 20oz. cups, thought there was a good reason.... guess not! ;-)

I think it's because there wouldn't be enough root structure to take up all that water in the 2 gallon pot. The water in the bottom would sit there for a long time & maybe cause a root rot situation. And also, if it dies for some reason, it'd be a pain.

Some people also change their soil mix going into flowering.

Those are just my thoughts, it may work just fine to start in a big pot. I put mine in a 4" pot for 10 days, then transfer.

Exactly. You dont want to put a seed or clone in a big ass pot. You dont want to water where there are no roots to absorb it. The water will just sit there. Root rot, mold, ect.
