aquarium filter cartrige as carbon filter?

So I am building a nightstand grow box. I'm using 2x120mm 40cfm pc fans to vent air. What I am thinking of doing is strapping one of those replacement filter cartriges to each fan. They are made of plastic, filled with activated carbon and have filter fiber to remove particals. This would help prevent dust from clogging the carbon. Has anyone done this before?

No but I think for the size of your box it wouldnt hurt it by any means. All that matters is that everything is air tight, though I usually have my air pulled out of my box through the scrubber first, Ive seen it done opposite and both seemed to work.
