Are 6 plants too much for a 600?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew or had any information on this question. I will be flowering in a 4x4 tent, using supersoil as my growing medium, and plan to flower 6 plants in 5 gallon pots under a 600 watt light in the tent. Will that be too many plants for that much light? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ive got 6 plants under 2x 600 watt hps. i switch to 12/12 when they reach 1ft so if i was you i would do 3 plants or veg for a short time.

by no means.

you can grow one huge plant or a dozen teeny tiny ones. it's your call.

aim for a canopy that utilizes the entirety of your light

Monkeybones is right. There is really only one question to ask, how can I maximise the use of space. If you can't answer the question now, you need a few grows under your belt then you will be able to. I'll give you my experience though, my 4 x 4 tent ran a 600w digital and 4 plants (vegged to a little over a foot), this seemed to fill the tent nicely, including height wise. If I were to do it again now I would scrog 4 plants and top to fill the screen (this is quite a bit more advanced though).

Do a couple of grows with 4 plants then when you feel confident go scrog. Also, depending on your outside temps a 600w is pretty much max for that size tent (to be safe, you dont want inside temps getting above 27-28 degs C, EVER)

Happy growing!!

I prefer to do 5 in my 4x4 600w. I place them like the 5 side of a dice. Usually veg to 15-20" and top em a week before blooming. Then lollipop on day 7 of flowering.

Thats just how ive had success with mu current strain. Im interested in throwing a 3x3 table in there and try a sog.

Edit: I use 3 gal grow bags when I used 5 gal I felt that it was a waste. This time ill be trying 2.4 gal super roots air pots they will be here friday

Not at all. You just have to closely monitor your vegetation period. Just don't do 4-5 weeks like I do. Remember a plant that has just entered into its flowering state can grow 2-3 times its size in a period of 3 weeks. Also can be strain dependant. For instance I flowered 6 grandaddy purples which are 100% indica with ease under 1 600 watt hps.

I'm finishing up 8 in a 4 x 4 tent with a 600 on my 1st grow and I would say grow 2 to 4 plants in there. 6 can easily be done but, It was ALOT of work rotating plants, checking/maintaining ph's, watering/feeding/pruning etc. in such a small space. My next grow will be 4 or less in a scrog. Better use of the light's footprint and alot less work.

Ya i agree you could prob get close to a pound off one plant if you do it right, but you could prob grow a good 1/4 or 1/2 pound in a SOG i guess it really depends on what you want, like if you want variety go with SOG or if you know what you like to smoke grow one huge tree, just my opinion, anyway good luck bud!!

Wow only a 1/4 to 1/2 a pound in SOG, mate your doing something wrong (I got 13 zips in a room less than a quarter that size, standard grow). I'd be aiming for 1.5-2.5 pounds in that room (aim high my friend). Ya gotta get it dialed in though, definately achievable even with a 600. Just sayin, you dont have to believe me.

I also use a 600w in a 4x4 area. I have grown 2,4, and 6 in this area. For my style of growing(topped twice and flowered at roughly 22-24" after like a 6 week veg) 4 is the magic number for me. I have looked into scrog and may try it in the future if I feel the need to increase yield for some reason.
