As long as there's no leftover unpleasant stench, a jar's a jar. It's the lids that vary. You can buy canning lids at most grocery stores, or just use metal ones you come across. The object's not to have anything that absorbs touch the weed. Dark glass is preferred, as light degrades THC, see.

i already sterilzed the jars. but since you say light is bad, could i wrap something around the outside of the jars so minimal light will come in? or am i just better off buying dark mason jars?

Any glass jar will work. The key is it being air tight. Some times ya have to put some plastic over it then put the lid on it.

The color of the jar doesnt matter. Store them in an area where temperature is constant. I usually just put them in jars, put them in a box and put them under my bed.

you dont have to get dark ones... just cover em up like you said... or paint em with a sharpie super fat... outside of course if you do the inside you just have some horrible tasting buds

Ditto on watching out for odor in the lids. I've tried to reuse lids from pasta sauce jars, but have been unable to get the smell out even after two dishwashings and soaking in OxyClean. Sometimes the food odors just seems to get embedded in that lid sealing plactic.

masons are best and very cheap but those will work to unless them still smell like what was in them :]
