Are tops more potent?

Do you know if the tops off the colas are more potent? I have noticed that there is a different high from the buds lower on my plant than from the tops. Is this all in my head? It seems like it would make sense that different areas of the plant would mature at different times but typically it seems consistent. Experienced input is appreciated.

Generally an early harvest will give you more of a body high, and a later harvest will give you a stonier heady high. Some people harvest the top of the plant first, and give the bottom buds a few days to catch up. Since the lower buds are a few days behind the main cola towards the end of flowering, it isnt unreasonable to believe you would get two different highs if you harvested the entire plant at once.

Hrm... I may have it backwards. As you can tell... perhaps it is I who is a little head high.

just wondering - what if you cut the main cola off and then (assuming that plant was untopped) lower the light for the smaller buds for e few days. just a thought...

I tried that for the first time on my last harvest.... I wasn't that impressed. I just chop the whole thing now...


PS TODAY I AM HARVESTING TWO LITTLE CLONES!!!! YEAH!!!

I sometimes do partial harvests and, while the unharvested buds don't really grow much at all in size, mine certainly have become much greasier (THC) than the top harvest.

Im in the process of harvesting some grandaddy purple, and Im doing it in 2 to 3 waves. I don't know how much difference it will make in the smoke, but after I harvested the tops of my heavily lst'd plants, the lower growth was very bright green. I left that lower stuff for another week, and it also turned purple in the unobstructed light.

now at least when i tell people it's purple, they won't ask me why it isn't purple.

If you go for the reharvest and you have already flushed your grow, do you need to put nutes back in to promote better growth.

I didn't. With only a week or two between multi-harvests, i don't know if you could effectively flush before the next cutting. I look at it like it's just more time to get good and flushed.

My plants stayed happy with just water. your really just waiting for buds to ripen, andthe plants are not growing much or producing more tops.

OUtdoors it is different, but, for me indoors , this works great.

That would depend on the genetics of the strain. Lets say if you had a dominant sativa plant the characteristic high is cerebral. Or lets say if you had a dominant indica plant the characteristic high is in the body. When you let a indica go past the 50% mark in terms of the maturity of trichromes then the high will be an all body high. When you allow a sativa dominant plant stay under 50% it will remain as a cerebral high.
