Are two lights better than one?

Hello,

New newbie here.

I've settled on buying a Spider Farmer light (sorry, can't afford HLG at the moment) but I'm not sure if I should get 2 SF-1000s or 1 SF-2000.
I just bought a 2x4x6 tent and think the 2000 will work very well, but I've heard putting two is preferred for best coverage.

For that coverage I would of thought just the 1 would do .

2 will give you better coverage than the single. You would get less spread out of the single unless you run it high in the tent, that eats up space, and diminishes the amount of light to the plants

Go with 2, you get better spread and can raise or lower each individually in case some plants get taller than others. Being new I am guessing you don't have training of plants down yet so it will be helpful to have 2 lights. It's also good in case one dies. Don't be sorry you cannot afford HLG at the moment, we all work with what we can afford. Those Spider Farmers are not the best lights but way better than the original Blurple lights I started with and I grew decent plants under them. I am sure you will be happy with them.

I prefer 2 135's. I bought the HLG V1's for my 2x4 veg tent when they were on sale. They were like $115 a piece back then. The HLG boards really aren't much more than the Spider Farmer after the promo code "RIU10".

Either option is about 200 true watts but a 2x4 really needs 240 to 280 watts (based on 30-35 watts per sq ft). If you start a little low, you'll probably want to upgrade after a while. Best bet is get what you need the first time (IMO). If there's anyway you can get the qb 135's you'll have nice coverage. Check out what @PadawanWarrior posted, maybe find a v1 kit or something to keep the cost down.

I am not very DIY inclined, so this kind of intimidates me, but it sounds like it may be worth it.

If you can turn a screw driver and push in a wire you are DIY inclined enough to put these things together. Don't let the DIY thing intimidate you, you typed a question, you are smart enough to put them together. There are even step by step video's.

The HLG 135's max out at like 150, but mine are dimmed down to 90 watts a piece. I love my HLG's. It just took a little adjusting to how intense they are. And don't fucking look at them. I wear the Method Sevens in there, and I still think those lights are starting to mess with my eyes.
