Aurora Indica, OG kush, Violator Kush, Bubba 76 - 2nd 600w Coco

Hi all, this is my second full coco grow. My first grow I made a lot of mistakes that I've learned from. Not doing DTW(Drain-to-Waste) with coco, nute burn, calcium issues (didn't use coco-specific nutes while not supplementing with calmag until too late), not transplanting soon enough, no PH meter until flowering, not being able to recognize males soon enough, light burn, heat stress (it got to 25C during March for a week or two, was not prepared for that, normal temps are 0-10C during that time) letting coco fully dry out near the end, plants were completely seeded. Despite all that managed to still pull out around 3-5 ounces of high quality bud from 600w(Master kush from Nirvana, also grew g13 Haze, which was weak as it was cut down 1.5 weeks too soon).

My current grow is 3x Aurora Indica (Nirvana seeds), 1x Violator Kush (Barney's Farm)(Bought to get an extra freebie, the OG Kush), 1x OG Kush (Reserva Privada)(Freebie), 1x Bubba 76 (Emerald Triangle)(Freebie). It was supposed to be 5x AI, but two of the seedlings died(my fault) and I decided to add the others. I also decided to germinate 4 of my G13 haze x MK seeds(home grown), I kept the best 50-60 seeds, threw out those seedlings as I just wanted to see their health and germination rate. I put seeds in water over night, and into most paper towels in the afternoon. All Seeds cracked/opened within 24h some even as soon as 12h while still sitting in the water! (100% germination rate in both grows)

2 bulb 4' t12 fixture with Plant and aquarium bulbs to start seedlings. (free from a friend, will possibly upgrade to t5's for perpetual grows) (
Cheap ebay 600w Digital ballast which came with hps bulb, 16" wing reflector, hangers , and I bought a 600w MH conversion bulb at 6500k, cheapest I could find off ebay. (~$220)
4x4 Grow tent off ebay (~$120)
Ebay 400CFM fan (~$100)
8 Seeds from attitude (~$65)
DNF veg nutrients($25)(wasted money as I bought other nutes soon after doing more research on coco)
House and Garden Coco A+B, Drip Clean, Roots Excel, top booster, BudXL, Magic green. (~250$) (will need more A+B)
Nutradip PH pen (80$)
10 2 Gallon Dirt bags (Cheap version of smart pots) (~$35)
Coco ($25)
Misc (~$45-75) (timer, ducting, thermal/RH thermometer, etc)
Total of about $950-$1000.

The Aurora Indica sprouted during the 1st weekend of October, I'll count October 6th as Day 1.
The OG Kush and Violator Kush were germinated a week later, October 13th as day 1.
The Bubba 76, because of a mixup it was germed and forgotten, had a 4" tap root and seed pod coming off before being planted.(thought my OG died but it survived). October 18th as day 1.

They were all germinated in water overnight, then put into moist paper towels and kept in a dark area, once there was a clear tap root sticking out, were put into moist Oasis cubes. I like these because I can etch the strain label right into the cube, and they don't need to be pre-soaked. I soaked them with non-PH'd water, flicked out the excess moisture, I would water them with 25ml of non-ph'd water whenever they felt light which ranged from twice a day to every other day(some plants received PH'd/nuted water while in cubes, made no difference). No heat pad was ever used. As soon as the tap root stuck out the slightest, which was roughly 5 days, they were put into 4" square pots pre-soaked, PH'd coco at 5.8 with a very light nute mix. They were also watered as soon as they were put in the pots with the same strength nute mix, with a lot of drainage. H&G Recommends 1.5ml per litre for the first week, I did .75ml. All plants receive the same feeding schedule as the AI.

Aurora Indicas are in the smart pots, the VK and OGK are in the 4" pots(Should be able to see the label), and the Bubba 76 is in the cup, was never put into a cube as the tap root was so long already.
The AIs 2nd set of leaves looks very awkward, some have 2 leaves, while other leaves are just one. Here are a couple pictures, and I will update Sunday with more, and then will have weekly updates.

Anyone know what the light/lime green dots are on that leaf? It seems to be the only one with the issues. Could it be nutes getting on the leaf while water, I tend to be careful with that, or maybe because of the mutation?

All transplanted now into 2 gallon smart pots, it seems I may have over nuted a couple of them, and growth was slowed because of it. Always testing the runoff, EC only, as PH always comes out at what I need it, and it was up to 2.2EC on one, and 1.6EC on another. I would only water once a week(twice total) while the plants were in the 4" pots, I tried doing that after transplanting, waiting until the coco was roughly 3/4 dry, big mistake. After transplanting I know now to water at least every 3 days, regardless of moisture levels to prevent nutrient buildup and/or lockout. They all seem healthy, minus the Violator Kush (which was supposed to be my prized posession). My Nutradip PH meter was off, it would show a PH of 5.8, but after re-calibrating it, PH was 5.5, which didn't seem to bother any of the plants all that much except the VK. That should be the 3rd largest plant, but the OG seems to of passed it in size and health, while the Bubba 76 is quickly catching up.

I decided to to get my feeding schedule right, getting the numbers I want, while following the basic guidlines of House & Garden. Slightly less A+B supplemented with some CalMg to get to the recommended EC numbers. H&G recommends 1.5mL per litre, I'm using 1.5mL per 1.2L and about .4CalMg per 1.2L. H&G recommends RO water, which I don't have access to, so decided to alter the regime slightly.

Room temps are at 70-78 during the day cycle, and 65-70 during the night cycle, humidity is low, in the high 20's/low 30's. I control tent temps by opening a basement window and having a vent blow straight out. Depending how open the window is, depends on the room temperate, very basic, gotta love the winter for that.

The AI's are on day 32
VK & OG kush on day 25
Bubba 76 is on day 20-22

Anyone know what these spots are? It's not splash over from nutrients, only affects the one leaf, and it hasn't really progressed in the last 7-10 days either. Oh and it's part of the second node, it should be a 3-fingered leaf.
DSC02430.jpg

Violator Kush, anyone know what the white/silver blotches between the veins is? Nute burn, Ph being off? It seems to of really slowed growth down, flushing then adding a small .8EC mix didn't seem to help.
DSC02431.jpg

Two of my AI's have mutated leaves on the second node the ones on the left, and the one in the back has a total of 4 branches on the second node instead of the regular two. Thought I took a picture, but I guess not. My camera died and I'm waiting for a charger from amazon, I'll have a clear shot of that and the leaves as soon as I can.

I know the AIs look a little light, but I rather slightly underfeed, then overfeed. Saves a bit of money, I don't like nute burn, and it's less hassle to fix a problem; just add more nutes next time around instead of flushing. From the little experience that I do have, over fertilizing seems to almost cause growth to come to a halt, while underfeeding may slow growth by just a little bit.

Update was later then I wanted as I just got digital camera (first pics borrowed a friends phone), but the camera is missing a charger.

I appreciate all advice and any constructive criticism.

Never seen this before, 4 branches at the second node, also one of the leaves has just two blades

VK was flushed friday with PH 5.8, bringing it down to .7EC

Watered Saturday with 1.65EC PH5.8
12L(~3gallons) mix was just enough to water 5 of the plants with ~5-10% waste
Bubba 76: 1.4EC, PH 5.7
Aurora Indicas: 1EC-1.4EC, PH 5.9-6.0
OG Kush: EC 2.2, PH 5.8 - Instead of being fed next watering, looks like she'll be getting flushed with a gallon of .45EC water. ~.13EC added calmg to my tap water which has an EC of .32

Always measuring PH and EC with each watering, it takes me an extra 10 minutes per watering, prevents nute burn and lets me know when my plants need a stronger feeding

AI 4 - 4 Branches from the second node. Not topped. 35 days
Sunday 001.jpg
AI3 - 3 branches at the first node. Topped. 35 days
Sunday 002.jpg
OG Kush - Was getting taller then the AI's despite being a week and couple nodes behind, decided to tie her down. 28 days
Sunday 003.jpg
AI - No extra main branches, but some side branches have more have extra nodes. Topped. 35 days
Sunday 004.jpg
VK - Just as many nodes as the OG, better branching, but it's soo small. 28 days
Sunday 005.jpg
Bubba 76- Some FAT indica leaves on this one. ~25 days

I will be setting up a closet(23"x59"x70") which can have ventilation for Vegging/early flowering(before buds start forming)
I have two choices for the new light, for about $150 I can either get a 250MH(hps bulb also included) kit OR 4 bulb '4 t5 HO(216 watts). Any suggestions?

H&G recommends that I be using 2.75mL/L at this stage, at 2mL/L, my plants are getting overfed. Watered with EC1.65, runoff was 2.5EC ! Looks like I'll be feeding them with .5mL/L for the next two feedings as I rather do that then flush. Feeding them less Roots Excelurator from now as well, from .3mL/L, down to .1mL/L.

I let my of my plants get a little dry, it's weight felt as if it was still 30-40% watered, roots must of exploded in the last week. Just a week ago, 4 days was enough time between waterings, now every 3 days isn't enough for the AI's. The Kushes will be watered every 3 days, while the AI's every 2 days.

Some like their plants to be as dark as my OG Kush(LTS'd), but imo, it's overfed and flushed it. Seems like the VK is starting to spark up, I'm thinking that it was just horribly shocked from the transplant and it frustrated the hell out of me since all the other plants were fine and growing well.

Amazing how fast cannabis can grow, compared to the first pics, it's only be 12 days! Looking back I really realize how sloppy my first attempt was.

First pre flowers appeared Monday on all 3 AI's. 5 weeks, 1 day for the plant to go from seed to maturity.

Flushed the AI's, flushing the Kushes tomorrow.

Switched to 12/12 on Tuesday Nov 14. (Tuesday Nov 20, not sure where I got that date from)

Looking good man! if i were you i would go with the 4' t5 setup or two 2' t5's so you can adjust. unless your closet is going to be open and you have good ventilation for the 150w hps to breath.

Thanks man

The closet has a 4" ventilation hole in the wall that leads to the laundry room and the bedroom is pretty cold, as I keep the window partially open, depending how cold it is outside.

I could pickup the 150 or 250 (same price) ballast locally as well and the T5's would have to be ordered from the states. It would be for vegging 4 plants, possibly 12/12 for a week or two before the 600w is done it's current crop.

And the 3 kushes were flushed today. 3.5+EC on the first bit of runoff, surprised there isn't any noticeable nuteburn, unless you're trying to find it up close.

Violator Kush, growth was stunted, but it seems I just panicked, think it was transplant shock.

It's been 2 weeks of 12/12 now, looks like flowers will start growing anytime in the next few days. Last day with the MH Halide bulb, will be switching to a 600w super HPS before lights on tomorrow.

Aurora Indica is such a hardy plant, highly recommended for ease of growth. My OG kush was 4+ inches further away from the bulb than one of my AI's.. the OG has mild signs of heat stress, the AI NONE whatsoever.

Bought myself a cheap watering system from home depot for $30 not so long ago, it'd be way too big of a hassle to hand water these plants at this point. Press a button, once I see some runoff on one, remove the line and keep watering the rest of the plants, then let the system run giving them ~100-150mL every 2.5h. Saves me over an hour of time every day, well worth it.

Violator Kush, transplant shocked, took a week if not more to recover, that's why she's so much smaller then the rest. She's also sitting on some 4" pots to boost her up a bit.

As of right now what are your thoughts with Emerald Traingle Seeds. Have not tried them yet.
I just chopped some Liberty Hazes today so cant wait to finally get to smoke it. http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o679/calicat71/Chronic/055.jpg

I am going to put my Holy Grail Kush in flower next week. So far vegging nicely. All the Reseeva Privada strains you mentioned are stellar. I just havent tried the Kosher Kush yet. Those beans will be attempted for germination today. Never tried well better yet have not cracked my free beans from HSO kind of on low priority list. My blue Mammoth was funky at first because the ruderalis did not kick in so I had to flower it at 12/12 did ok only pulled about 39 grams but when the flip occured flowers formed in two days quite strange..decent smoke.

Havet tried Bomb seeds gear. I hear their berrybomb is a great strain.

Very strong plant, not much side branching ( it was 7-10 days behind the AI's). The branches shoot straight up though, right alongside the main stem, I'm guessing it would take very well to LST. It took over 5 weeks for the cotlydons to finely shrivel up and die. It can take abuse, I've had readings as high as 4.0EC(soon flushed it though) and no noticeable nute burn. The smell is fantastic so far, the smell of kush is over taking my basement lol. The OG and Bubba are probably my favorite, but the AI's will destroy them in yield despite only getting a week more of veg. So far from what I've seen from the Bubba, Emerald Triangle is a solid breeder.

Thanks for the tip on the Blue Mammoth, might look at a different Auto to grow along side the new strain, possibly Auto Silver Haze by Green Label Seeds. How was the yield & flower time on the Liberty Haze, which is what I'm looking for in the next grow without sacrificing potency. Let me know how she smokes.

Thank you for your feedback concerning Emerald Green Triangle seeds. Been eyeing what ur growing and the grapefruit krush mostly. Their lineup looks amazing. The yield with the Liberty Hazes I would classify them as being a moderate yielder, slow forming flowers and a light to moderate feeder. Prediciting about 2.25 ounces as an average with 7 plants. Got the chemdog phenotypes ( I know lucky huh) it took 69 days. Love the lime funk smell with a touch of slowly deterioting carcass meat. Actually took a gander at a smaller bud and suprisingly enough was quite smooth and had a subtle lime taste that lingers. Won't go into the high because it will be misleading since its not psychoactive yet.

nice, 2.25 zips per? how much wattage you using?

Day 23
Day 23 12-12 001.jpg

OG kush stretched so much, at least tripled in height, had to switch spots with the bubba because of light burn as I can't really move the light up any higher.
