Yeah your ginger should grow back from the rhizome left under ground. It could be worth spraying your whole grow area including the walls of your tent and around your pots. Go nuclear on the little fuckers!

Fungus gnats killed your crop?
I thought they only have larvae that nibble the roots- making small new seedlings way more susceptible to greater level of damage but older plants the effect not so bad? I've even seen regular legal gardeners talk about not worrying about them on bigger plants because they don't hurt much... however for pot we also worry about the mold during flowering- and apparently they carry and spread the mold.

How did your gnat story go down?

I started growing in a different style to how i am growing now, I ued to grow using grodan slabs in a tub with a tub below it where the roots dangled before hitting the bottom that held about an inch of water. I couldn;t figure out what was wrong with my plants coz they'd gone all yellow and just sick looking and when i took a peak at the roots they were brown and slimey and covered in gnats. I tried soaking the whle lot, slab and roots, in neem but the plant was too far gone, It was only a foot high anyway and that is what made me become a higiene nazi and also change ,y growin style. I have seriously not in 6-8 years ever had anythng more than spiders in my grow room.

my fishies have been hard at work and i gotta tell ya they are doing a bang up job. no deficiencies, no excesses, happy turgid plant, buds developing nicely, frost is piling on early and the smell oh good lord the smell. it is beyond stinky, greasy sweaty fruity diesel funk and thats without even giving the buds a bump or a squeeze, they just ooze odour.

im even feeling quite confident that this will yield as well if not better than my hydro set up

That is a beautiful thing man.. can you give us a few basics on the fish side of the setup, how big is your tank, what kind of fish and how many??

50l tank. 50l grow bed. constant flow. hydroton. red wriggler worms living in the hydroton. 7 comets about 5-6cm long in the tank. no water changes only add backs with plain r/o water. PH buffers itself to 6.3 at the moment.
fish are fed 4 times a day by an auto feeder. feed them organic fish pellets high in protein and fat. also adding 1g potassium sulphate (potash) per 10l of add back water.

thats it. its really simple actually.

Brilliant.
Are the worms an extra food source for the fish or to keep algae out of the hydroton?

Has anyone used Scoria rocks?

I've bought it today from bunnings as a perlite replacement. I'm making a soil and I don't want to use perlite as my aeration because it floats out and separates from the mix.
Yankee's go on about rice hulls and pumice rock, but I can't find those around here... so anyone know what Scoria is and know if it will be good as a perlite replacement?

I think it's logical

Number 1 point is that It doesn't matter who heads the party! The invisible party heads create the police and the 'leader' of the party is like the spokesman who sells it to the crowd. That means it doesn't matter if Gillard or Rudd is 'leader', you'll get Labour party policies. SO having said that, it made no sense to have Gillard lead the party when she had such a bad psychological effect on voters. Why lead the party to a 10 point slamming at the election?

As far as me wanting someone in or not... well all the politicians in Australia are not worth a grain of salt- except for maybe Senator Nick Xenephon. He seems to be a genuine human being with genuine thoughts.

Labour party = the arse kiss party. They just play politics and say what ever will they think will get them voted in and don't really stand for anything

Liberal/Nationals = the right wing arsehole party. They are less likely to pander to the public but more likely to whip up xenophobia and other such things if it strengthens their position. Their current spokesmen ('leader') is a self-proclaimed and unashamed liar. He said he is likely to lie in the heat of the moment and he some how thinks that admission makes him more credible as a human.... although there are tons of morons out there who think it really does make him more honest (..more honest because he said he lies :wall:)

Politics in Australia is truely pathetic- but how could it not be when the average citizens knows nothing about history, economics, world politics etc. All those things are boring or for geeks... yet somehow these morons are qualified to select who will lead the country?? pffffffft

i tend to agree but i had no idea which way i was going to vote before as i couldnt stand either side, now i will go labour, even though i think labour party is in a shambles i still couldnt bear to have tony abbot as our leader and our representative.
plus i think the government under rudd had a lot of good things going on, julia gillard should never have been put forward for the position she did. she was pushed and shoved into the position by gina rinehart and the other mining magnates using there money and there behind the scenes power to eliminate rudd and in doing so they also ended the super profits tax which would have had our country back out of debt by now.

its a sad state that the rich have so much power, but you only need to look at forbes list of most powerful women in the world to see it how it is.

http://www.forbes.com/power-women/list/

georgina rinehard sitting pretty at #16 and poor old julia gillard down at #26. who do you think has more say in how our country is run our PM or the rich mining magnates who can influence the party members who make the decisions

Bout bloody time. .. The only reason people voted for Gillard last election is cause the thought of letting Abbott and co in power was disturbing they had no choice but to vote her in. Had Big kev been there still Kevin would of had a majority and we would have seen a 5th change of liberal nationals leader in 6 years and malcom Turnbull would be a viable choice between kevin!
