Averages conceal extremes. It's the extremes that are dangerous. For example, a few hot days can melt the permafrost in Siberia and release huge methane pockets from under the ice.

The IPCC says: it is a greater than a 90 percent certainty that emissions of heat-trapping gases from human activities have caused “most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century.” We use the last 150 years as an example, because that's how long we have been pumping massive amounts of fossil fuels into the atmosphere.

No actually they base it on a collection of data that dates back hundreds of thousands of years that all independently corroborates the anthropogenic hypothesis. The ~150 years is accurate temperature records collected by mindful enough scientists to know, even way back then, that pumping pollutants into the atmosphere will likely have an unwanted effect. Here we are over a century later with all the data that proves it.
Now conservatives are on the backburner, constantly, ever so slightly moving the goalposts, from "There's no such thing as global warming!" to "Yeah it's real, but we can't do anything about it so who cares?!", with two different states attorney's general going after Exxon for lying just like the tobacco industry.
