UPDATE: I checked out the date on the back of the ballast..........fuckin 1989! I gave dude a high dose of ebay mail and hes sendin me a "new" one with new cables. we'll see how it acts. as for now my 12 children are in the cool northeast sun with enough warm weather to last till shipment...wish me luck!

I would also suspect the bulb first.......if you put another bulb in and it still doesnt correct the problem then its probably a component of the ballast. Ive had bulbs only a couple of weeks old fail. So anything is possible.
Though 99.9 percent of the time my equiptment has run flawlessly.
Good luck

I have a couple ballasts from the 60's that still work fine, lucky enough they still have the watt rating on it for the bulbs. Do yours have the white ceramic back with the oval fixture all mounted together?

If your plants are only sprouts you can put a couple of cfl's on 'em...you can use those for a good couple of weeks. Those magnetic ballast will last a lifetime..take it to a local guy and tell him it's a workbench lamp.

Edit: I maybe shoulda read the last post. Looks like you are good now.
