Bare Minimum Requirements For Growth

ok so I've got a bunch of seeds and I've taken a few out for germination and I want to try a little experiment with them, I'm wondering what the bare minimum that can be used to grow a single plant. I'm planning on using nutrient rich compost (As I don't have a garden for soil and am not wasting money on standard compost for a single experimental grow) and water, nothing more, then just treat it as a standard house plant, it will only be receiving any light that comes through the window, if that happens to be less than "set number" of hours I'll shine a standard household lamp on it for an hour or so just to keep it topped up on like (despite the low quality). This is all purely to experiment out of curiosity, I'm not looking for a 1000g highly potent plant with huge buds, I just want to see how it would hold up compared to a plant with full equipment. Has anybody else ever tried this, and if so what were your end results?

I think Stardustsailor did that using a 3W LED.
He got about a pound.
A pound off a 3W LED? Wow, that's pretty damn impressive, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the results I'll get! Do you know what strain was used and whether or not it was autoflowering? I'm currently using standard Lemon Haze with possible plans for trying a strain of Kush, also going to try cloning both and play around with adding flavouring, I've heard of it being done but something I've never attempted.

If this is just an experiment i would suggest some GE Hydroponics Liquid solutions and use a 5 gal bucket and a air stone, this will allow you to get an idea of the exact bare minimum on nutrient requirements and you will be able to measure with ppms your input and losses. I have done a similar experiment though realization so to speak. I figured this out over a term of years. FInally comming to the realization of how to measure nutrient loss or usage during different cycles of the plant life cycles. as for the light it depends on how cheap you want to be a 00k Mogul based socket CFL are great for 4-8 plants and its just like a 400 w MH Bulb, and same for the 2700K Mogul CFL

on the other hand if its just one plant and a really cheap option would be 2 - 27 what warm wat cfl bulbs in a bulb splitter in a construction lamp will do just fine. depends on how cheap you want to be and what kind of results you want

Theres a guy that just posted the same thing your thinking of sorta. It will give you like a couple grams for two or more months of work. If you have your heart set on a super easy grow, you could always get ome or two auto seeds and try that. You could put a small light in your closet and set it and forget it. Theres very small autos out there and with one 100w cfl over it in a closet theres pretty much no work involved. You wouldnt need a/c, you wouldnt need a light dark cycle just 24/7 on. Just remember to water it. Single auto seeds are under ten bucks and theres lots of single seed companies out there.

Thehouse lamp will not have the right light spec to give any meaningful help to the plant..get a cfl off eBay costs 50 pounds it will help loads with the grow

If you think a pound can be gotten from 3W, then just imagine how much will come from 30W!
Seriously though, he did grow a little bud, IIRC, under a 3W LED.

my whole goal in mind when i grew my 1st plant was simular to yr approach:
How can i grow a plant with the VERY least amount of $? ...and minimal effort at that, as well.
I found that yes, it can be done, but if you are anything like me, you will get it started, see some results, enough to make you think you can do it with ease, (whats the big fuss?!? seems simple enough, plant seed, water said seed, wait, then reep benefits) then BAM!!! A deficency develops and so to remedy you start shelling out cash, time, and last but not least, effort.(the very. things you set out to avoid)
...fast forward 2 years
now you find yourself a couple thosand bucks into your full time hobby (as i did)
you got a good light because sitting in the window just didnt cut it,
you got a box FULL of good nutrients because the compost was decent, but you knew you could improve it by not cheaping on one of the most important ingredients to the recipe for GOOD enjoyable smoke (good medium\good nutrients)
ya, yr window weed was cheaper, but it was schwagy and the time and effort alone would had been worth the $5 you could had spent on some mexican brown brick weed, and that'd take 5 minutes to score rather then the 3+ months you burnt thru growing window weed.
also now you got a small grow tent to keep a good light\dark schedule, because the window weed got light to it in dark periods and hermed on you. (that mexy brick weed is starting to sound pretty good, in comparison)
oh, and cant forget the jars and hygrometers and ph testers and adjusters, because you said "noone needs that shit" and yr hermed plants ph was outta wack so it locked out and couldnt uptake any nutrients.
when it was time to chop, you dried it qwikly and it tasted shitty, so now you use jars and meters....

did i answer your question?
the answer is YES. it can be done, but anything worth doing, is worth doing right.
if you think you could see yourself hooked on growing, like the rest of us, do yourself a favor and skip over the bullshit man. its not worth it IMO
at any rate,
good growing amigo.

Hey man, thanks for taking the time to respond, but I'm dreadfully sorry that you are mistaken on many levels, not that I blame you, maybe I didn't make myself clear. Firstly, this isn't my first grow, it's literally as simple as "It's an experimental grow" and I want to see how well these seeds hold up, these are seeds I had acquired from a batch of Lemon Haze, if I had gone out of my way to buy say AK47 or Blueberry Diesel then yes, I'd have them growing with a decent set up, as good as that Haze was, I'm not looking to have a ton of it, I'm purely using these seeds to play with and see what they can do by themselves. Secondly, I don't smoke anymore, therefore I won't know (or even care for that matter) how great or how shit the weed is. I figured the original post said it all but apparently a couple of people seems to be slightly mistaken into thinking I'm looking for some quick weed, or I'm eventually going to smoke this.. Someone might, but I won't be xD

Ha yeah man! I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how this works out, if I ended up with anywhere near that amount I don't know what I'd do with it all haha! I've changed it slightly, I went out and got standard compost, as opposed to using my nutrient rich for an experimental grow. So far 2 of 3 seeds are sprouting roots so I'll be planting in the next day or 2 xD Give it a week or so and shine a 25w standard bulb on little grower to work up 18 hours, 6 in darkness (-: Veg it for a few month then switch to 12/12 (-:

Thanks for the tip Euge, but I'm not looking for any 'meaningful help' or an effective grow, I'm just playing around with this one (-:

Hi @UnderwaterFireman,

A buddy ask for a very simple grow, he has 1m2 in the laundry room : tomato soil ( we found nice 12.5L growbags) and a 300W CFL, autos.

What strains have you got growing there? They look like they're coming along beautifully xD Mine will be lucky if they get anywhere near :L which is a shame because the seeds have potential, after starting germinating I got hold of some really crappy Kush seeds (really, the buds stink, and not in a good way and I imagine it don't taste or feel too great either) but I've got another few of these ill grow properly after this grow (-:

I tried that. It was 1964 and you could get life in Texas for a single joint. Black guys did too. I ended up with a plant about 10" tall. Wispy as shit. All it got me was an asskicking when my old man found it. Good luck.
