Barney's Farm "Honey B"

Hi Everybody!
Just wondering if anyone else has grown this strain recently and if they might share their experiences. Right now I've five regular's in the second week from seed (100% germ rate too) and all are looking very healthy except for one that fell victim to a cat attack and even it is rebounding quite well. They are all about 3-3 1/2" tall and very bushy. Which is fine, because I'm aiming for a harvest height of about 28" or less. But, it makes me curious, because I thought Honey B was a pure sativa. Then again the info on this one is kinda sketchy (I read somewhere that it might be a really rare Haze pheno, like an A5 [?] or something). I think on this grow I'm going to try to produce some seeds for future grows. Also, there seems to be no variation in pheno among these seeds. They all look exactly like one another, so hopefully they'll produce productive, true breeding offspring. That's what I'm hoping anyway. I'll keep updating this thread from time to time, and add some pics when things get a little more exciting.

P.S. If someone could tell me about what height to begin flowering to reach my target height that would be awesome. Thanks

There gonna double or triple in size during flowering..ur best bet would be 2 LST when they get a lilttle bigger and try 2 keep the height down without losing in yield..if u wanna finish at 2 and a half feet ..i would start lst NOW

Hell yeah! I knew this one looked like a winner, even if it does take a little longer to grow! Quick question though, how much did your guys' plants stretch during flower (double or closer to triple)?

When working with sativas ur gonna have a lot of stretch ..never grown it but the flower times im guessing its REALLY sativa so it should triple in height..but im guessing the stretch should stop after 3-4wks of 12/12 then its would be all bud production..

Started LSTing them a few days ago, seems to be working well. There has been an upward surge of regrowth at the leaf/stem juncture. Also I've begun adding 1/4 strength nutes at every other watering. Everything seems to be OK so far (knock on weed). Plants look strong and healthy with sturdy stems and good leaf growth. The only remaining issue is when to flower... sooner or later?

The plants are five weeks from seed now and on a 16/8 light cycle. Height is difficult to determine due to LSTing, all seem healthy and beginning to smell rather pungent. They're also consuming large quantities of water. Typically 8-16oz per day to keep the soil at an optimal moisture level, usually a pint on watering/feeding days and then half that to keep the soil from becoming bone dry in between feedings. This may be partially due to my use of terracotta pots, but in my past experience the plants I have grown in clay have been healthier than those in plastic. My theory is that the unglazed clay is much more porous allowing for a greater exchange of gasses, albeit at the expense of having to monitor moisture levels more closely. I also noticed after adjusting the restraint strings today that my fingers were pretty sticky!!!

Hmm, spotted some fungus gnats last night and saw a (formerly) live FG larva in my soil. Treated with Schultz Houseplant & Garden insect killer (0.02% pyrethrin, 0.20% piperonyl butoxide). Leaves were misted and soil was given a wetting with the pesticide. Hopefully, I managed to catch this problem before before it becomes a serious issue. I also think I'm going to forgo watering for 2-3 days, just to be safe. Also, as a precautionary measure, the next few feedings will be with high P-K value nutes to help fortify the root system in case of damage. As a side note, the plants still look very healthy...

Some of the leaves have minor chemical burns from the pyrethrin treatment. Doesn't appear to be serious though. I have only seen like two gnats since the treatment. I may do a repeat spraying if I continue to see live ones in a couple days.

The gnats came back so I switched to imidacloprid granules mixed with the top layer of soil and that took care of them. Haven't seen any in two weeks. Made a total bonehead move and accidentally double nuted the plants right after applying the pesticide. It caused some minor nute burn on the lower leaves (I was still using high N-value veg nutes) but it didn't do any major damage, it's just ugly. I've also been LST-ing my girls pretty heavily, to keep them short (they're only like 8" high, but completely fill their pots). Despite my growbox looking like the set of a japanese bondage film, I count 26 main colas forming on 5 plants and many, many other bud sites on side branches. I'm three weeks into flowering now and some of the buds are already some of the frostiest I've ever seen in person. Another eight weeks and they should be ready for harvest.

Sorry for the lack of posts, but flowering has so far been long and uneventful. I'd never thought I'd say this, but I've never been so happy to see a bunch of fat girls in my life! I'm expecting harvest in two-three weeks... I'll update then. Right now I can only speculate, but the yield is gonna be big.

Sativa's interest the hell out of me, simply because I'd never have the ways, means, or patience to grow them.

some pics? I read start to finish then I realized you hadn't posted for a few months. LETS SEE THOSE FLOWERS!

Hi Everybody!

Well, I harvested the other day, it took twelve weeks of flowering in all. Harvest wasn't as big as I thought it was gonna be, growth slowed down a lot toward the end. Totals came to 83 (wet) grams of highly manicured No.1 bud (main stems and leaves removed), 5g of No.2 "popcorn" bud, 19 grams of very frosty No.1 leaf and a large pile of stems and No.2 leaf. The No.1 bud is being traditionally air dried/cured with the No.2 bud and the No.1 leaf water cured to hold me over till the rest is done. I haven't decided what I'm gonna do with the stems portion. I might try an iso quick wash and try to get a little hash out of it, but I'm not expecting much.

Here's a summary of my grow: strain = Barney's Honey B, area = 1/2 m^2 (w/ 27in of overhead), lighting = 8x26w cfls. Yield = 107g of smokeable material.

Grading System: No.1 = best quality, for bud this means main cola, very dense, covered in trichs, no leaf. For leaf this means very frosty "bud leaves," somkeable when water cured, very high THC content. No.2 = lesser quality. Bud- lower popcorn type, airy, still frosty, but also contains bud leaf. Leaf - fan leaves generally, little or no trichs but still useable for hash or oil, stems from colas. No.3 = the crap. Anything left that might still contain THC, sometimes used to bolster oil yield by giving a very quick wash before the main event, so to speak.

I've sampled a little of my crop, and let me say, this is some strong shit. Four tokes had me as high as I've ever been with virtually no body load. I love this weed.

P.S. Sorry folks, but I've I decided not to post pics for security reasons. I know everyone loves bud porn, but where I am, growing is a seriously high risk activity and I'd like to do everything I can to minimize that.

I'd love to hear what comes out of the LSD, that one was one of my finalists for strain choice (along with utopia haze), but at the time I was pretty low on funds so I could pick only one. Next time thats probably the one I'll order, 'cause sweet jeebus are the utopia seeds expensive...
