Bars or boards?

Hi
Is one better than the other? Diodes are diodes right, if you have some 301bs and some 660s, 730s etc in whatever configuration it shouldn't really matter right?
Everything seems to be bars in favour of boards, I just wondered if there's any reason they perform better?

I think if you have quality boards, there isn't a compelling reason to switch to bars.

But I agree bars will give you more even coverage.

I think for bigger tents, the bars would be a better choice, anything 4x4 or smaller, it's a toss-up.

The HLG Blackbird offers the advantages of both. And these puppies produce.

I'm running the HLG Scorpion Diablo X. I love that thing but more importantly my plants are fans.

One difference is light distribution, another is height from the canopy. With bar lights you can generally keep the light closer to the plants, so if height is a concern bars are a plus. For a grow room with ceiling height and lots of space the boards can be higher up and cover a larger area, and with multiple lights provide great coverage to a big space. Just preference and the room you have to work with.

i found boards kinda keep the heat trapped under them and bars let the heat rise naturally.

It's interesting to see where the industry is headed as a whole. There's room for both styles but one or the other will eventually prevail. My first leds had computer fans cooling the heatsink inside an enclosure. They worked okay but that form factor is largely obsolete because better tech came along, partly driven by market demand (us).

I still use a couple older Bestva lights with the internal fans as supplemental lights, along wth a 500W HLG, they have about 15K hours on them ,and still work just fine.

I still use those for veggie starts. They grew pretty okay bud too, just not enough! Very handy for vegging anything

Ok thanks for the thoughts guys. Just ordered my first bar set up, going the Alibaba route cos im broke...to be honest i have a cheap chinese QB board with a mix of 3/500k diodes plus some 660s and a few UV/IR diodes and i havent been blown away by that so im taking a bit of a punt on this one. $200 for a 200w set up inclusing shipping and taxes. Lets see how she does!
