Battery grow...

Ok so ive seen a few of this exact question...most of which were met by ridicule (but i agree some of them where ridiculous;-)) but please: only constructive criticism here please:eyesmoke: so heres the story...

Outside shed with no power and no way to get power from the mains there:-(. I only wish to run 2 or 3 200w ish CFLs in there. Now I have been looking at leisure batteries (the type for caravans, vans with T.Vs in the back and yachts etc) and am wondering if anyone on here has used or know enough about them to give me an idea whether this is possible? I considered a generator (sound is not an issue) at first but found it would not be able to run for the whole light cycle...so i then thought maybe get the generator to power the batteries when they run outta juice?? save lugging batteries back and fourth...a solar panel is also not an option...nor is the sun:finger:  any ideas or pointers would be great. if a few batteries would be required then this could also be arranged!

Now imma go blaze one and also ponder this idea :bigjoint:

hmmm...

Your Idea would work kinda like a sump pumb with a battery and a UPS. Can you not run any kind of extension cord or is this just completly in the woods. I understand that its a little late in the season to plant outside but they make light tunnels that you can install in the roof and have them spot light an area inside. a little more detail on the shed setup and Ill be happy to give you some advise.

Don't think those bats are capable of powering 600 watts, the question is how many amps do they draw? I personally don't know, but am curious to find out.

is shed fixed to ground if not then move it close to house
forget the batteries and generator ideal
and the post to power with just a genny would be expensive its all been covered here before
better to move it if u can

How far is the shed from the nearest outlet? Running extension cords through PVC pipes or garden hoses might be less costly. Just a thought. Is this a stealthy grow?

Can you explain this sump pump idea? No power to it is really not an option lol. Cant get spotlight thing either...just a room with no power basically!

for batts, get some 12V car batteries and a 600W+ DC to AC inverter(for cars) so now you have 600W+ @ 120V to run your light. But i'm out of clue to run the intelligent charger it need without electricity... :(

edit: And use deep cycle batteries... that way it will not "kill" the batteries if the charger can't start for some reason... ;P

This is basically the plan...and it sounds like its possible with a few obstacles...is 120v enough though? and yep the ones im looking at are deep cycle

Most CFLs run on 120V (as nearly everything in your house). But the more item you plug, more watts you take/need. I also suggest always going OVER the wattage youll take. you want to run 600W of light, get a 800W+ inverter. If you want to also plug you fan into it, then you gotta need a lot more.

I did this once mounted with some relay to light some CLFs in my growboxes in case of power outtage :P
So I can confirm it'll work. but still I cant figure how you are going to charge the batteries... :S

night time here, see you tomorow! :)
