I like the larger cfl bulbs thats sweet. Is that a charcoal filter you made up there? I gotta make one soon. I was going to build the one out of the two desk pencil baskets, but havent located the small basket yet.

check out my $0 box journal to see....

yep homeade carbon filter, not sure how well iuts working as i just made it the other day and have had some leak issues. going to go out in a bit and when i walk back in the house i will be able to tell if its working or not. only used 1/2 of the roll of activated carbon filter as i figured i could get 2 out of it. if it smells ill add the other piece and see how that goes

ok so i let the soil sit in the water overnight and tested it again and still reading really low in the 5.0-6.0 range. need to increase this. i heard dolomite lime is the way to go and was wondering if any of you guys have had experience with it and could tell me how to increase my PH.

You know I used the dolomite bro. Seemed to work in about 3 days. PH of 5.8 raised to 6.5! It's not supposed to be super fast acting, but it seemed to work well for me. If you were close I'd gladly hook you up, considering I could only buy a 50 pound bag! I'm interested to see what you come up with. You seem to be a pretty resourceful guy! How's the kid!?

the boy is great :) i appreciate you asking + rep :)

i just super flushed all my plants, if this fails im starting over i think ><

my tap is a perfect 7.0 on the PH meter so i just flushed all 4 plants for at least 15 min each under luke warm tap. see how this plays out.

i also just LST one of my plants

you should flower soon! unless you like popcorn. cfls do not penetrate deep like hid. Big cfls and small plants u'll be a lot happier with your results.
I use MG potting soil. the trick is not to over water/ water to frequently it releases to many nutes, i water once a week and wait till the soil is dried right out or my leaves droop.

quick update:

i flushed each plant last night, probally not enough but i ran them under the faucet for 10-15 min each with a stream just enough to keep the top of the pot full of water but not overflow.

i left the lights on all night and plan on keeping them on 24/0 for another day then going to go back to 18/6 for a bit.

1 plant i did a LST on and im really hoping the flush got the PH up to a lvl where they will thrive, seems they have stopped growing so i felt the flush was necesarry as i think the PH was so low that it was blocking out too many vital nutes for the plant to grow. im on week 4 now and these plants should be way bigger.

im actually going to do some more LST today so stay tuned.

Looking forward to it.. I started a little LST on my ones that were already crooked/bent stems.. I figured why the hell not. The other straight and true ones I'm too nervous to try LST with my first grow. Looking forward to seeing how you tie em down.

yeah i just took them out and said nevermind, i tied 1 down that is not doing really well but the others are doing fine the way they are. i was going to go back to a vegatative cycle 18/6 but just decided to set my timer to 12/12. and let them flower up. i am getting a decent amount of money here in about 3 weeks and will probally be building a much bigger and better setup thinking 28 inches wide by 5 ft long and 5 ft tall

this will give me about a 30 inch by 28 inch floor space and 5 ft tall gow area x2 so it will have 2 seperate rooms with 2 seperate doors , i will also be investing in some more lights and a HID setup like the one someone linked above

going to order from attitude and get some good beans to grow. if i can manage to find another place i plan on moving out of my small trailer and into a decent sized house. If this happens ill be setting up a pretty large scale grow and investing about $1000.

theres way too many options for growing pot, i need to keep this shit simple lol. i really want to try the SCROG screen i built.

scrog screen looks nice. I think you would enjoy a larger set-up and an HID. I dreadfully miss my CFL flower box but HID is fun in a whole different way. Larger light = larger plant = larger pot = a lot less work with better results. Imo the more soil you have the easier it is to grow - maintaining 1g pots is hard, 3g pots are easier, 5gal easy, 7g a total breeze, then you plant up a 65g and you barely have to think about it :)

Flushing now and then isn't too bad but don't get into the habit of making it a regular occurrence.

well i have been debating flushing for a week or so now. i really dont enjoy doing it and its not something that i plan to do regularly but with my PH down in the 5.5 area i had to do something to fix it. also the nutrients in the perilite and peat moss i mixed with my soil were wreaking havoc on my plants so i figured a good flush might not help it much but it definatly wont hurt.

i left the lights on them all night last night after the flus, my theory behind this was if there are a abundance of nutrients in the soil after flush the plant will need light to photosynthisise and use as many as it can without burning the plants.

today they look great, i have them back on thier 12/12 schedule and hoping by the time i get my next setup going these will have some nice buds going on. and in about a month they will be ready for the new 400w HID light i will be getting

my flower box will be definatly composed of all CFL, i like CFL growing but 1 light opposed to 10 bulbs is much more efficien, im going to use the 2 105w CFL 2700k in my flower room and order 4 more 6500k 50w CFL for the veg cab

aslo now that i flushed if i see no signs of burn or deficiency by next week i want to try a 1/4 strength 10-52-10 nutrient to hopefully kick the flowering into high gear.
