Before I go against what I believe in....

Hey everyone. In my past threads I have always been dead set against removing fan leaves until they are dead. However I have found that satori is worse than a shade tree when it comes to covering the new chutes coming up, the leaves are so big and thick. Can I remove a few fan leaves that are on the plants to allow for some light penetration to the lower nodes? I am a week away from flowering. :blsmoke:

Thanks mrskitz I will do it when I get home. I wasn't sure if it would stress them out too much. I just can't believe how thick Satori's leaves are; its ridiculous, there is almost zero light penetration under it.

Well, if you are going to do it, now is the time. They will have time to recover before flowering. My Kalichakra (also a mandala strain) had a sativa pheno and reached 4' 6" with 2 weeks of flower left. I started flowering at 10". She has many budsites and big fan leafs. I didnt take any off, but I wish I had topped her. This late in flowering, I have noticed that the fan leafs that are turning yellow and starting to die off are fattening up the buds that are in connection with them. The same is happening with the shoot sun leafs. So, I wonder if they were not present, if the buds would have fattened up without them. I have read that the leafs supply sugars to the buds as they are dying off. I have moved them around alot to let more light through, but its not as effeciant as taking them off.. I have also noticed no difference of the buds being any bigger or covered in more trics between the ones in full light and the ones shaded by leafs. I hope this helps. It is only what I have noticed in my grow. Still, you have a hard decision ahead. Good luck.

Thanks papajock; I only want to get rid of 2 fan leaves. I just cant believe how dense and thick the foliage is with satori. I did top her already and that helped slow down the vertical growth, but 2 of the fan leaves really need to go. When I say there is little to no light penetration under the top canopy of this particular one, im not kidding. Thanks for your help.

In that case, it shouldnt hurt anything. By the way, I cut and dried the bottom shoots of my Kalichakra to give them a try. Very powerfull, good concentration and interests in things going on in the surroundings. Excellant wake up smoke as it gets the mind jump started. Speach was a little slurred. Seemed like time slowed down as well as my movements as I was doing things around the house. Felt the high set in on the 4th toke of a small bowl. Cant wait to try the flushed and cured buds. Your satori is very simular to this strain. You should enjoy it.
