To germinate the seeds I got out a quart size canning jar, put about an 1/8" of water in bottom, gently wrapped the seeds in a few damp paper towels, and then folded the towels and put them in the jar, setting one corner of the towel in the water. This keeps it moist, you don't want it too wet though. I set them on a dark cool shelf and they sprouted within 2-5 days. You can also do the same idea on a plate, but make sure you place it in a cool and dark place so the seeds will go ahead and open and grow out. Planted the seed about a 1/4 of an inch in the soil, with the sprout coming out pointed up to the sky, this is easier on the plant. Watered them just enough for the water to come through, once they had broken through the soils, I moved them into the next size pot with the first root I saw growing out the bottom. Mixed in a 1/4 cup of worm castings for every 5 or 6 cups of soil.

Okay, let me see... My girls ar still babies, I had originally thought I would just work with the seasons instead of lights and all that jazz, but NOT ANYMORE! I didn't realize it would grow as fast with lights, so my girls are about four weeks old, and just under their new lights. I took the advice of a friend and have them set up in my closet using the bar at the top to wrap the extension cords and have six cfl's; four @23 watts, two @ 42 watts, and I will be adding more as we go. I have nine small plants right now. I have the cords wrapped up top on the bar, and plug-in outlet adapters on each of the three cords, then a twin socket adapter, and the lights are screwed into that. Very simple and Floydfanx shared the idea, and his plants are doing very well. I will need a fan pretty soon here, but for now they are fine.

I used a really good organic soil, and worm castings mixed into the soil. I have kids and my poor plants have withheld some difficult things from them. Two of them got pinched at the base and the stem wounded, but I babied them and they are way happy now and are just like the rest. I aso had my son water for me, and I was unaware of the happenings, and he flooded them completely, but they are still alive and happy, so I must be doing something right. I water them once a week, maybe a little longer in between, depending upon the need. Seeing how other people's plants that were the same age as mine, but giants compared to mine, I realized I didn't want to go without light. I chose the cfl's because they last long, use less electricy, and are better for the environment.
