Outdoor I have always used granular time realease fertilizers as a soil ammendment, adding more on the topsoil when its needed.
I used Organicare Pure grow & bloom this season with decent results this season. Next year I may try Advanced Nutrients heavy harvest, but havent really heard much about it so cant recommend it.

Healthy top soil built from organic material, helped along by nitrogen fixing plants. mulched, weeded and kept pest free by a living work force(ducks) Watered by a swale and surrounded by companion plants.

The most practical, organic teas from guano and other ingredients.

Check out your standard Jack classic or peters. If you have halfway decent dirt then your food requirements are minimal.
