Best RH for Dried Bud

I've found that 65% is just right. Less than that feels too dry, more is too moist. 62% is noticeably too dry. What I do is dry with calcium chloride, Damp Check moisture absorber refill pellets, in a closed container on a heat mat with parchment over it and set on 1 the full duration, which is usually about 4 days. It's not hanging or anything, just a pile of cleaned down bud, I mix it around regularly. It browns up nicely. Green bud fans wouldn't like it, not harsh enough for their taste, needs more chlorophyll.

It has to be the brand of heat mat that has an auto shutoff disable button "stay on". I think it's Sunbeam brand. All other ones shut off after a certain time on. Anyway, that dries it right out, in the 50s RH, or 40s if I leave it way too long. I find it best to over-dry it first, it drives any ammonia off, and then rehydrate it up to 65% by spraying deionized water on it in the bag and resealing it until it absorbs.Takes a surprisingly lot of sprays to get it back up there actually. It's ready when it stays at 65% after sitting in the bag for like a day. I wouldn't use 62% Bovedas because it's just too dry.

You're right, couldn't sell that around here. At 62% I can't get it to light with a Bic lighter. My friends want to smoke it as soon as they get it.

i was thinking after the cure was done to drop it down to 49-55%. a lot of people are finding out that 62% is too moist, but it looks so good. @BobCajun , are you still cob curing at higher than normal temps?

I honestly think it depends on your current climate, demographic, as well as customer expectations (ie bag appeal). Personally, I live somewhere incredibly arid and dry, so I like 65%. I have friends who like the shit brick packed and bone dry... It reminds them of old school Mexican brick weed which they loved. As for the whole green buds thing, I've discovered that if I slow dry my buds and cure them for about 2 - 3 weeks they maintain their vibrant color, odor, texture, and smoke smoother than any club or home grow I've ever had.

Throw in one of their 49% and a 69% one; they'll even out to 58(+/-)2.
