Best Size HPS

What size HPS would be good for a space that is 4 feet high, and 2x2 feet

going to put either 1 bigger plant or 4 small ones

thanks

Are you going to have proper ventilation and exhaust? If you have the money to put good exhaust system in it. You could go with a 250w or a 400w but to use the 400w you will need a cooltube setup in there. I use a 250w in a cooltube in my grow area and without the cooltube, my temps are around 81f and with the cooltube my temps are 72-74f and i can put the plant within 4in from the tops and the cooltube. I have my exhaust fan pulling air from the open end of the cooltube and the air goes over the bulb and out the exhaust fan. And i also have a small 4in fan blowing air in threw the intake. I tried the passive intake and it did not work for me so i installed the 4in fan in the intake and it works perfectly now. Good luck with your grow.

Sorry, i bet you know all this already. I just looked at you number of posts and seen you have alot. So you probably know way more than me. Sorry.

I'm considering growing in a slightly smaller size, roughly 2ft/2ft/8inch.. I think I'm going to go for a 150W HPS with backup lighting of maybe 2-4 24W cfls of blue spectrum (depends on space left).. I intend to not leave a drop of shade anywhere in the box and just pump the plants out.

That's my strategy in a low watt situation incase you're the same. I also just want to steer clear of the whole over heating element, so I'm not pumping out the smell at turbo speed! Going stealth..

Although I might use the same lights in 2 diff boxes and try go perpetual.. Either way, hope this helps you decide! (and if anyone has an oppinion on mine;))

go big or go home
wtf man?? In that kinda space u cant really "go big" with hps id love to suggest a 600w but it just wouldnt work, well maybe u could get it to work with SHITLOADS of extraction, i use a 600 in a cooltube in a 1.2x1.2x2m tent and it keeps my temps about perfect. In that space id go no bigger than a 250 with good extraction, my first grows were with a 250 2 plants and they work great! But why not go for a couple of high power cfls, i now use 2 125w blue envirolites for veg and they grow just as quick as with my 250w hps with less than half the heat, get 2x blue spectrum for veg and 2x red for bloom for roughly the same price as 400w system, far more practical in smaller spaces than hps imo

listen to my boy he helped me n he speakin da truth. dont go big it'll be hot as hell. 250 is good bra maybe a 400 if you can get da heat out but if not not worth da trouble bra.

somebodies post count isnt any reflection of their grow skill or knowledge, sorry couldnt resist saying that...

if you mount a 600 above the space you have for the plants to grow you can pull it off for sure as long as you vent the light with six inch flex and use a fan that will pull over 400 cfm on both ends. one pushing air and one pulling air. you wont get away with it if you have to hang it from the four foot top though.

Agreed, but in that kind of space imo a 600w would be pointless, yr never gona get gr8 yields, youd only be able to grow lowriders or do short indicas 12.12 from sprout, with only 4' minus yr pot minus yr 1-2' of clearance between tops and lamp yr left with what 2' of growspace, yr yield wouldnt justify the huge extraction needed and the power a 600 uses, better of using flouros or hi power cfls, not the silly gay little cfl's, where u can grow yr plants nearly all the way to the top of the space without burning and give em a little veg time, with less power and less extraction.

theres no way id put a 600 in that space, i grow with cfls (about 200+ watts of them) and it gets hot already, a 400 even might be pushing it... im thinking 400 with cooltube if i can take the hit in watts... we shall see

I guess its all in the engineering of it, MAN. Being creative and thoughtful in the designs with your homework worked out. in that space id go with the 400 watt for max potential, hooked up with a cool tube and an aesome blower. Shit ive seen 250s in computer cassess, enough said. Loudmoth biaatches

250 in a p.c case, how sad is that. How tall were the plants? 6inches? And whats a loudmoth? A moth that shouts SHUT THE FUCK UP??

nope, temps were in the 80's and you could stick you finger an inch away from the bulb without burns. Yup thatd be a loud mouth.

Actually I thought it funny the "go big or Go Home" coming from someone named MisterMicro.

hey new here gettting ready for my first grow indoors. space is 7 ft wide by 10 fy wide with 1/2 at 6ft tall and other 1/2 at 7ft tall. i'm thinking about (2) 250w cooltubes for each, maybe by instead of one big bulb for each if i go with the two cooltubes i could grow taller? thanks in advance for yer tolerence of my ignorance and thanks for any help !

yes you my friend as honkeytown says have lots of room, 2x250watters will work well but 2x600's will make full usage of yr space and give u far greater yields and in that space unless yr in a hot climate u can do without the cool tubes as long as u have sufficient extraction and intake if need be. Altho using cooltubes wil allow u to place yr lamps much closer to the tops of yr plants, increasing yields further.
