Best soil mixture for seedlings?

I had some seedlings b4 and killed them due to various noobiness - I'm just learning at the moment b4 I buy proper seeds.

Right, so what would be the best soil mixture? Atm I am thinking compost soil, virmiculite + perlite - would this be OK? I also have some bonemeal + chicken manure pellets - would these be of any use in the seedling stage, if so, how much should I use of each?

Thanks in advance.

don't use any nutrients for at least 2 weeks, also look for Jiffy seed starting mix at walmart for 5$ a bag its good stuff for seedlings.

I'm from the UK so I don't have access to a Walmart - unfortunately! So I shouldn't use bonmeal or manure then?

not yet but you should still be able to find jiffy potting mixes though I would think do you have any gardening stores?

u wanna use a peat based soil. even make your own.

here are a few mixes i have used.

best one

1 part worm castings
1 part perlite
1 part vermiculite

next best

2 parts peat moss
1 part perlite
1 part compost

if u have access to any seed germination soil at a local garden store that would work too.

also remember u wanna let ur water sit for 24 hours before using it, and if u can get a fish aquarium air pump and air stone to put in the water and let it bubble for a while, that is the best thing to do. roots love air in there water.

Devastation.

yeah Its bad, its too hot and burns your plants if you water to often because of the slow release nutrients, not to mention when you need to start adding nutrients. its not good for cannabis growing at all. did they have Pro Mix?

by sit for 24 hours do you mean leave the cap off the bottle?

all they had was compost, miracle gro, wood chippings n some other soils - nothing specifice to what I have been reading about - lame!

Plain potting soil with no amendments.
Anything WITHOUT fertilizers added.
A LITTLE compost is fine but you need nothing more.

Coco is fine too, but mix in about 10% compost and 10% perlite. Perlite isn't really requiered but helps if you have it around.

I am going shopping tomorrow. What should I be looking for on the back of the soil bag - just so I don't buy the wrong soil AGAIN :) Also, would Grow Bags be acceptable for seedlings?

For seeds I prefer a super fine germinating mix. The Pro-Mix BX is a bit coarse for seedlings IMO. I use this but any super fine mix will do.

I like clear plastic cups for seedlings. That way you can see how far the roots develop and know when to transplant.

hmm thats a good idea, do you put them inside a non clear one and just lift them out to check?
