Yea, we're exceptional amongst industrialized/Western nations in that we have more imates in jail or on Death row, more mass murders, more guns, more income inequality, more infections due to the Viruses & refusing to wear PPE's or get a vaccination and fucked up Educational/Medical systems where we produce idiots & bankrupt people with our exorbitant medical costs.

It's because over half the country was dragging it's heels on change, but they are in a minority now and know it, as the country evolves into the future. Recently they've dug their heels in and concentrated the hate and stupid almost exclusively inside the republican party as the half decent folks walked out as independents for the most part. They now have to cheat to win, they have for awhile, but now it must be more open and brazen, because they know they've lost so much ground, even since the election. Republicans now make up around 24%, democrats 36% and independents around 41%, but a majority of them are probably former republicans who lean right. That's probably why the republicans ran ahead of Trump himself in 2020 and surprised many.

This is a time of transition and cold civil war, such periods of major social and political change are often accompanied by turmoil and upheaval. The problems you describe are largely 40 years of this divisive bullshit with racists in both parties, now the situation is different and the parties are polarized along the traditional American fault line of race. Everything else including the culture wars are a proxy. Now you have a situation where it has come to a head, if one side gains enough of the upper hand they will exterminate the other using the law as a cudgel. The democrats will reform voting and open the franchise up and the republicans will kill democracy and institute authoritarian rule, gutting or destroying the constitution and opening the gates of Hell. One way is forward into the future, the other is backward into the past.

Yeah, we're No. 1# when it comes to idiots. I just heard we reached the bottom on health care in most categories, not surprising though. The the future is not very bright.

You must have missed the Philippines and the parts of those countries where you claim you never saw anything like what you saw in America. I'm not going to bother posting pictures. Just type "homeless and whatever country you want". You'll find scenes that make America look like heaven regarding the homeless problem. If you think it's only bad in America then you haven't been looking very hard.

There are definitely some differences. In other countries, it's considered shameful and they put their head down and hold out their hands and are super appreciative for anything you'd be willing to give. Here, I've seen people get almost fighting mad because a stranger wouldn't buy them a latte at starbucks. Shame and embarrassment are virtually extinct in the US and have been replaced with an extreme sense of entitlement and unearned self-worth.

I am weak on the facts in this instance. I know the Scotus said "sorry no" and the Executive wanted this. How much obstruction came from Congress? shrug

I realize Biden could have written an executive order, but he is wise to mind his burn rate. Your previous post about politial capital was spot on. The calculus will shift after the first top-tier elected Republicn getting indicted. Biden is wise to play a long game imo.

If we had chosen Sanders, he'd have lost and we'd be dealing with Trump's takeover of our government. Biden is pragmatic and he's nailing the top priorities. Rent relief is a losing issue in the polls. Just like Sanders's woefully inadequate and politically stupid Medicare for All "plan". But the left would rather lose than be pragmatic.

Heaps of homeless people all over Asia. The Philippines I have not been to but the Philippines is also a very poor country compared to America which is by far the world's richest.
I don't go round looking for homeless people on holidays it's just very evident everywhere you look in the some parts of the US.
I think I read 2 out of the top 5 cities for homelessness are in America. I'll try find the link.
No need to get sand in vagina about it it's just the way it is!!

Australia where I come from is also very beautiful but a lot of the same for 1000s of Kms.
Ahhh gun violence something the rest of the world just stands back and shakes their heads at. Just so many senseless deaths at the hands of people with mental illness who have easy access guns.

I have a cousin in Melbourne.
See the rest of the world 1st, I found it to be more interesting and generally more humane than here.
This place has always pissed me off with it's wars, racism & general violence & it's only getting fucking worse.
