(Newser) – Bei Bei Shuai, a Chinese immigrant living in Indiana, was distraught when her married lover and the father of her unborn child left her in December 2010. She took rat poison, leaving a suicide note telling him she was "taking this baby with me." Instead, friends took her to the hospital, where doctors saved her life—but could not do the same for her baby, Angel, who was delivered prematurely and died days later in Shuai's arms.

Now Shuai faces 45 years to life in prison, after Indiana decided to prosecute her for murdering her fetus. It's the first time Indiana is using its feticide law—which was intended to protect pregnant women from violent third parties—to prosecute a pregnant woman herself.

Shuai spent 435 days in prison and is now out on bail and wearing an ankle bracelet in advance of her December trial; she gave her first interview to the Guardian after her recent release. "I have a strong desire to stay in America," she says. "I knew America as the best country in the world, with the best education system. People get more freedom." Her lawyer insists Shuai was mentally ill at the time she attempted to take her life, and calls the case "absolutely frightening" as a slippery slope: What about mothers who smoke or drink during pregnancy, or those who pass on HIV to their children? But the prosecutor insists Shuai's note is proof that she was not "trying to take her own life," but rather that she was specifically "trying to take the life of her fetus," he says. Click for more on the heart-wrenching story.
wonder if there gonna hate the year of the rat now? :)

Apparently there is a strain of "mad LSD" in Florida which causes people to have superhuman strength and not feel pain. lol
LSD is a wild fighting drug as it is near impossible for the user to feel pain or get knocked out. I have seen this first hand where a 100lb stickman was being choked by a 350lb gorilla of a guy. That little guy turned every shade of purple but would not blackout. It wasn't until his friends started yelling at the guy to let him go because he was on acid. That was one of about 5 incidents I have been witness to.

FOOTBALL FANS in the central African state of Congo were hurling accusations of witchcraft at each other yesterday after a freak blast of lightning struck dead an entire team on the playing field while their opponents were left completely untouched. The bizarre blow by the weather to all 11 members of the football team was reported in the daily newspaper L'Avenir in Kinshasa, the capital of Congo.
"Lightning killed at a stroke 11 young people aged between 20 and 35 years during a football match," the newspaper reported . It went on to say that 30 other people had received burns at the weekend match, held in the eastern province of Kasai. "The athletes from Basanga [the home team] curiously came out of this catastrophe unscathed."
The suspicion that the black arts might be involved arose firstly because the opposing team emerged unharmed and then again because the score at the time was a delicately balanced one all.
"The exact nature of the lightning has divided the population in this region which is known for its use of fetishes in football," the newspaper commented.
Much of the detail about the match remains obscure as the Congo - officially known as the Democratic Republic of Congo - remains stricken by civil war between the government of Laurent Kabila and rebel forces, backed by neighbouring Rwanda, in the east of the country.
Witchcraft is often blamed for adverse natural phenomena throughout western and central Africa. It is relatively frequent for football teams to hire witchdoctors to place hexes on their opponents.
In a similar, though less deadly incident in South Africa over the weekend, six players from a local team were hurt when lightning struck the playing field during a thunderstorm.

ABC News' Linsey Davis and Lauren Sher: Nine-year-old Brendan Haas, who spent three months trading things so he could win a vacation to Disney World and then gave it away to a girl whose father was killed in Afghanistan, was surprised with his own Walt Disney World trip today on " Good Morning America."

To reward Brendan for his generosity, the Disney Company, the parent company of ABC, awarded Brendan's family with an all-expense paid trip of their own, and made Brendan an "honorary citizen of Walt Disney World."
But instead of accepting the trip, Brendan said he wanted to pay it forward yet again and that he'd be able to find another family of a fallen soldier who deserves it.

"We can't accept a trip to Disney but we have many more people who would like to have an all-expenses paid [trip] …so we can do another raffle," he said today from his home in Kingston, Mass.

His mom, Melissa Haas, said her son's response even caught her off guard, but she never puts anything past him.
"Knowing him, in my head, I would think that he would do something like that," Melissa Haas said. "For a 9-year-old to get that opportunity and to have a response like that, it's amazing. We say it's like having a 40-year-old in a 9-year-old's body. I am very proud."

Brendan's mom said he wants to donate the trip to another family from the original raffle pool.

In February, Brendan set up a Facebook page called "A Soldier for a Soldier," hoping that he could trade his toy soldier for a trip to Disney World to give to a fallen soldier's family.

"I just think they do something good, so I wanted to do something good back," Brendan said of his toys and their real life counterparts.

Brendan was inspired by Kyle MacDonald, 26, who became an Internet sensation after trading a single red paperclip for a series of bigger items, and eventually his house.

Brendan said he posted his toy soldier one night, and the next morning, people immediately responded with hundreds of offers. He swapped through a NASCAR toy, a weekend ski vacation, and just before Memorial Day, he got what he wanted: an all-expenses paid trip to Disney World.

"I was just so excited," Brendan recalled. "At first I was worried it wouldn't work."

The boy said he then put a bunch of names of military families that he'd gathered from Facebook into a hat, and pulled out the name of 2-year-old Liberty Hope Steele. Brendan soon surprised her family with the trip to Disney World.

Liberty Steele's 25-year-old father - Army Lieutenant Timothy Steele - was killed last August in Afghanistan.
In a twist of fate, Lieutenant Steele apparently knew all about Kyle Macdonald's original paperclip trade.
"The things Tim had in his pockets when he died were a St. Christopher's Medal, a picture of his family, and a post it note with the words "red paperclip," his mother, Mary Ellen Steele, said.

Disney will also upgrade the Steele's family vacation, rolling out the red carpet for them on their visit.

(Newser) – Rookie Toronto cop Andrew Vanderburgh arrested an off-duty fellow officer on drunken-driving charges in 2009, and he's been "harassed and berated" within the department ever since, says an internal disciplinary ruling. The Toronto Star sees it as a classic case of a cop "who crossed the thin blue line and paid the price." One detail that stands out: As Vanderburgh drove back to his own station in a marked police car following the arrest, another officer pulled him over and gave him a ticket for allegedly disobeying a red light.

The ticket was later dismissed, and the officer who gave it to him has been docked pay and reprimanded. The disciplinary report singled him out because he chose “to disregard his professional obligations and embark on a course of retaliatory action against a colleague performing his sworn, lawful duty." Two other officers also were formally disciplined. The officer accused of drunken-driving, meanwhile, is still fighting the charges in much-delayed court proceedings.

Newser) – Oof: Kathie Lee Gifford had quite the awkward moment yesterday on the Today show, when she asked Martin Short about his relationship with his wife—not realizing, or remembering, that his wife died in 2010. "And he and Nancy have one of the greatest marriages of anybody in show business. How many years now for you guys?" she started off.

Short is being widely praised by bloggers for his classy handling of the line of questioning, as he responded, "Married 36 years." Gifford went on: "But you're still, like, in love?" "Madly in love," Short replied, according to E!. Off camera, Short told Gifford his wife had died, and she apologized later on air, according to video obtained by Jezebel. Perez Hilton points out that Gifford had another "oops" when she tweeted a second apology—she directed it at a fake Martin Short Twitter account. "I send my sincerest apologies to @MartinShort and his family," she wrote. "He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I'm so grateful." Less »

This shit is pretty "strange" and "different".

"A Canadian porn actor suspected of mailing body parts to the headquarters of two major political parties after making a video of the killing might have fled North America, police said Thursday. Montreal Police Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere said authorities believe Luka Rocco Magnotta fled based on evidence they found at his apartment, and based on a blog Magnotta once wrote about how to disappear."
Sorry if it's a repeat.

New York is banning all sugary drinks over 16 ounces.

Sucks for businesses and it's not going to keep people from getting fat. Ever heard of a refill, New York?
i heard that earlier. such bullshit. a 16 oz cup doesn't even fit 16 oz of fluid when it's full of ice. this also means that 20 oz bottles of soda would be outlawed so some businesses will have to revamp their entire offering of beverages. this is just an end run around the failed proposal to impose a soda tax there. they are simply trying to get people to purchase more sodas to make up for the smaller portions and therefore collect more sales tax (soda is subject to sales tax there).

Found this one. lol.

[h=1]How many times would a man have to ejaculate in order to fill a pint glass?[/h] How long would it take also?

quatt47

[h=2]Best Answer - Chosen by Asker[/h] An average ejaculation is 10 millilitres. That is 100 ejaculations for a litre. A litre is 1.76 pints so 100/1.76 = 57 ejaculations to the nearest whole number. How long it would take is open to speculation. A normal healthy male could ejaculate again from 15 minutes after the first one but this would not give much time for the semen to be replenished, so a smaller sample would be produced. If you gave an hour between ejaculations then, during a day you could get about 16 loads but these would diminish as time went on. probably four a day would do it giving 14 1/4 days. However as semen liquifies after 15 minutes and starts to dry up you would need a closed, refrigerated container in which to keep it. This, of course on a metric UK pint. USA has a smaller one of only 16 fluid ounces as opposed to the standard UK Imperial measure of 20 fluid ounces.

Woman denied emergency contraception even though she had been raped.
OKLAHOMA CITY - A metro mom is outraged about the way she says a local doctor treated her daughter. She says her daughter was raped over the weekend. And when they came in to seek treatment and get a rape exam, the doctor refused to help them.
It's hard to imagine being turned away for a rape exam. But it turns out the nurses who specialize in those exams rotate every month to different hospitals around the metro. They are called Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) and they are specially trained to conduct those exams.
However, that's not what this mother is angry about.
The mother said she and her daughter did file a police report about the rape. She's angry that she brought her 24-year-old daughter to the Integris Canadian Valley Hospital emergency room on Sunday, and that the doctor who came in and saw them refused to do any sort of exam or to provide them with any emergency contraceptives.
Not only that, she says the doctor was less than sympathetic when dealing with her daughter, even though she was told she was a victim of a rape.
