Blackstar 270w Led - beginners Choice?

Give LED another 5 or so years and they will be the grow light of choice.

As of now, you pay MUCH MUCH more for a LED that does the SAME as a MH/HPS combo...

Common sense tells normal people (those who arent potheads) that buying LED now is not sensible.

When they dial in the LEDs and they actually PRODUCE BETTER than hps/mh for NEAR the same cost, they will be worth having.
Until then LED just seems to be an ego stroke to some people.
im growing with LEDs and for me it was the better choice then HPS even though it cost quite a bit more.
Im growing in a bedroom closet and an HPS would have generated far more heat then i wanted to deal with, and the noise from the ventilation would of kept me up at night as im a pretty light sleeper. plus my lights should last a few years before i need to replace it. i could have gone with CFL but when i factored in the extra cords and sockets id need and the amount of bulbs id have to get, plus havign to replace the bulbs after at the most 2 grows the cost was only a little less then what i paid for my leds. mind you i went with 2 180w lights off ebay and not a very high wattage light which are very expensive. im of the belief that multiple smaller untis cover better then single large units.
I will agree that HPS is more effective in covering bigger grows and areas. But everyones situation is different and for some LED is the right choice. there is many benefits and drawbacks to any lighting setu[p and everyones situation is different. its nothing to do with ego stroking

i own a blackstar. u know all positives about led. if your only lookin to have 1 or2 smedium plants that get 1.5 - 2 oz then they're great. if u need more flowers then hps is def way to go.

I agree, but, my 270W has grown 4 medium/tall plants in a 3ft, x 1.5ft x 6ft high area and got 2 oz off each one so far, got the last two finishing now.
Its basically up the wattage time, but consideration of area is vital as even LED's give off some heat.

Im now starting to think wether the old saying '1 watt = 1 Gram' is true or not. Even if its close, anyone out there had similiar results?

i got a 180w light off ebay, currently have 4 plants under it, im going to be getting my second one here in about a week so ill have 2 plants per light. also running 2 39w t5 bulbs which i sprouted my seeds under and will use as side lighting through the whole grow. this is my first grow and so far its going good no stretching, and tight nodes, im growing in a 2x3x5 tent but im only using about 2x2 of it currently, heres a couple pics of my setup. first pic is from when plants first sprouted, second pic is my biggest plant yesterday, it is almost 2 weeks old. (the 5th pot off to the side is not cannabis)

i got the same light (amazon) for a small grow of sshaze in dec. All i can say is that the plants seem to love the light, tight dense node spacing during veg, stocky thick trunks and branches like you wouldn't believe. However i'm running with hps also so not a led only grow. Took the led out a few days ago cuz the leaf stems were turning purple only under the led. Don't know what that means, but it made me nervous so for the moment i'm only under hps and mh, and the new leaf stems are not purple, the old ones stayed purple but might be fading a little.
that is a good thing they turn purp cause of the genes i would put it back on them

nice grow mate, best of luck with that. If your looking for a second light then look a bit further then ebay mate, some good uk suppliers out there now. Check out Autoflower.net site. Jtang has done some good journals using the same LEd's as i use. I like the idea of mixing T5 bulbs at the sides, wicked idea. You can actually buy bar LED lights now aswell. Ohhh if i had the dosh.....

thanks, i figured the t5's would help a lot during flowering as the LEDs dont have the best penetration if the plants get tall. im buying my second LED from the same place for 3 reasons, i like the price, i like the light, and im a little OCD so my lights MUST match lol

I live in canada, but im not to worried about the light breaking. if it did id just have to pay shipping or whatever to get it fixed. but ive read through a lot of the feedback the guy has got so im confident in the product lasting for a long time

Heres a question for y'all, How long does Big Bang Regular take to finish for a LED grow, is it a slow trichome developer? as im getting cloudy but really slowly..tghe colas are looking ripe but the trichomes are still not all cloudy yet, Temps are good, im not feeding her, ive even changed the two centre modules of my lights to just pure Reds, (thanks to Dan @ GrowNorthern for sending me them free of charge)
Any advice peeps?

Have attached a pic of one of my Big Bang Buds bathing in the Redder Light, Red Bud. lol
Plus a good shot showing both plants and underside of lights with the two red modules fitted.

I was told by several people that the led method may take an extra week to ten days more than the conventional method that they are using the light to become denser and thus it takes longer dunno how true it is but that is what i was told....hope this helps
