Blumat Tropf Setup for 3 3Gallon Grow Bags?

Trying to figure out how to set up 3 3gallon grow bags in a 2x2.5’ gorilla tent rigged with the Blumat tropf system. First thoughts are to hang the bucket at the top of the tent (get the one from sustainable village with the nozzle preattached) or put it on a stand above the bags most likely sitting on the ground in trays.

Should I have one blumat carrot or two in each grow bag? Would that change if I did living soil and/or a cover crop?

How many tee attachments should I have? I know some people have said to add extra segments to Make cleaning easier, but is there a guideline or something people follow? I read the instructions but it doesn’t go much into best practices.

end goal setup would be 3 3gallon honor grow bags, biggest question is how many carrots, how many segments of hose, and where to put the bucket

any help with this is appreciated, thanks in advance!

I use one carrot in each 3 gallon fabric pot of coco. You should put the reservoir outside of the tent and run the line through a vent. The main line can go on the floor of the tent with with the feeder lines attached using one of the T's running to the carrots.

I just use a cheap 18 gallon tote. Drilled a hole, attached the bulkhead fitting and connected the main line which runs into the tent through a vent on the bottom.





I keep a small pond pump on the bottom to keep the nutrient solution mixed and oxygenated.




The 3mm feeder lines connect to the main line using a T fitting. This is a 3 gallon fabric pot. I run 100% coco. No perlite.



Just dial the blumats in and your done. You won't need to worry about watering. Just keep nutrient solution in the reservoir.


Sit back and watch your plants grow. Good luck.

@xtsho wow thank you for this!! Very informative. What pump do you use? And what parts in addition to the starter kit did you get to make your setup? I might PM you when it comes time to buy to make sure my list has everything for a perfect setup like yours

I just use an Active Aqua 160 GPH submersible pump. The only thing I needed other than the 5 carrot starter kit was the tote and pump. That's it. It's a pretty simple system but it works great.

I don't know if my setup is perfect but it works and no more hand watering.

That looks awesome, I have been looking to switch to an auto watering system, thanks for sharing.

@xtsho anything that would’ve been a nice add in retrospect? More tee or elbow joints, more hose a different diameter of hose? Just trying to brainstorm thanks in advance

Not really. Just get the 5 pack starter kit it comes with everything you need. I wouldn't get the box kit with the bucket because you're paying $45 for a 5 gallon bucket. I did buy some extra 3mm line so I could run the blumats farther from the main 8mm line. $15 for 25 ft.

The kit has everything you need except a reservoir which is at most $10 for a tote or 5 gallon bucket.

@xtsho is all that tote is is just a bucket with the hole predrilled and the piece attached? That’s it?

The bucket you can get with the kit is just a 5 gallon bucket with the thru hole already put in. The 5 pack starter kit without the bucket comes with a thru hole fitting. I just drilled a hole in an $8 tote and put it in.

I ordered the BluMat kit with 12 carrots, 5 gallon bucket and several feet of red tubing to plug it all up....i sat my 5 gallon outside my tent on a 2ft tall box and ran the water-tubing in through one of the bottom duct/vent holes, strung it through my plants and back out the same duct hole...totally light proof drip system....i dont always use blumats, mostly during vacation or breaks
