Blumats. Who's using them?

Do it in the morning and monitor them throughout the day. Chances are they will be fine overnight. Also get them dialed in before you decide to leave on vacation. It takes a few weeks to get down. I hand water them during that period to "restart" the process. and fine tune every morning until they are locked in perfectly. I still hand water every few days to flush excessive salts out, and just because I also like doing it. Especially when it isn't a daily chore.
I did the blumat classics. I started them a week before I left(for 5 days) to verify they were working and try to adjust height of rez to proper height. I still watered lightly till I left. They seemed to work in keeping them alive. But they weren’t happy when I came back. Rez was practically empty. I prefer to water by hand as needed over constant water, seems I get quicker growth. Moral of my story is they work if you do it right. I probably needed a bigger rez and have it up higher. I’ll use them again for when I travel.

Curious if you blumat guys use a filter with your gravity setups?
I'm using one of these on my dtw setup:

Sustainable Village sells essentially the same thing w/ 8mm connectors:

I've been trying to find them. Can't really get them in Canada. I have the filter but can't find the 1/2" to blumat barb thing. Experimenting with 8mm motorcycle fuel filters.

I had to buy my filters from sustainable village I think and have them shipped across the border.

I looked. It would be 120 shipping
I think I purchased a big roll of the red flexhose as well possiblysome other stuff as well, thinking maybe I got free shipping or paid less for spending over 100 or something can't remember,
Definitely don't recall paying that much for shipping

You sure you set them up correctly?
Doesn't sound like you did with your experience.
When you set them up did you soak the carrots correctly and fill the hole you put your blumat in with a medium with no perlite, the perlite can throw off the sensor and cause it to think it needs to water
i set them up properly. adjusted them at the dripper properly, compacted the soil around the carrots, syringed water into the caps, screwed them up underwater and left them there etc etc. it was all done as per thier instructional video, a number of times. i had about 20 of them, 1 in each 8 litre pot. random pots causing issues so it wasnt the set up. maybe i was just unlucky but after a fortnight of continually flooding, resetting, re-soaking etc i threw them in the bin and got a timer and pump. it doesnt flood my room out like these things did-frequently.
i re-soaked them at least 2 or 3 times. they caused me nothing but problems.
like i say, maybe i was unlucky

The soil around the carrots, did it have perlite in it?
I use straight peat or ewc or a mixture of the two. I've heard chunks of perlite can make the sensor think it needs to water. So I dig a hole fill with peat put in carrot pack and water in heavily.

I was just wondering the same thing, what size barbs did you go with on the above unit, 1/4"?
I've been looking at various parts and setups, they make several screen sizes for the filters, any suggestions?
These have a bit larger filter surface area

Ones I got from sustainable village were 8mm so they fit the 8mm mainline
Yea, I saw those but they priced them at double and seemed to be aftermarket parts anyway.
I figured they were just 1/4 barb adaptors, tubing is rather forgiving.

The huge blumat thread on icmag had people talking about buying barbs and stuff from another source, you'd have to go search but I def remember it being brought up with sizes and a place to order some barbs I think....was a few years ago when I first got the blumat system so it's a bit purple hazey if you know what I mean

Shout out to the og blumat head Sunnydog!!!!! Over at icmag
Pretty sure that's the dude who turned people onto these for canna on the forums
