The problem as I see it is thus: The SS security fund has been raided by congress to add to the general fund for years to make the debt look smaller, some political subterfuge. Had the SS fund been left unmolested, there would be enough money there for our grandchildrens grandchildren. The system would work fine if left alone by those criminals in congress. Now, since that is not the case, we need the revenue from the workers to pay for the retirees. To give youngsters a choice would be fine with me as long as the government agreed to keep those checks coming for the people that payed all their life and are relying on SS for retirement. The wolf in the henhouse over the SS debate is and always has been those congressional thieves.
Correct. The SS fund was first raided to pay for the war in Viet Nam without raising taxes. At that point, SS became a Ponzi scheme. Both parties are responsible. Ultimately all Americans are responsible because we let them get away with it.

Not so fast under, My idea of government controlled medical would be a hell of a lot cheaper and include all citizens. By eliminating profit from medical, (you know, those multimillion dollar salaries and bonuses for cutting medical care going to CEOs, and those ever rising stock prices of HMOs) Hey no system is perfect but if we looked at all the systems from all the other first world countries and took the best from each, I'm pretty sure we could come up with a much better system than we have now. I suppose if you are wealthy and have great medical care, then this might not be your cup of tea, but the thing is, there are more of us than them, it is time to speak up for medical for all, No profit medical. Profit=medical is an oxymoron.
