Brand New To Growing

I bought a zip off a friend of a friend. Spent 130 on it and it's absolutely trash. It didn't do anything so I'm pretty sure it's just cbd. Never gonna buy from him again. I think it would be better if I had my very own source so that doesn't happen again. What would I need to start just one plant?

An enclosure, tents are easiest for beginners
A light, hps cmh led, if you can afford it I’d buy a cheap led
Venthilation to remove Hot air and draw in cool co2 rich air
Some soil and some plant food (tons to choose from)
Clean water
Thermometer and hygrometer combo with min max memory
Some seeds or cuttings

Welcome to RIU. You need a seed. Everything evolves from there.

How do you envision yourself growing? Indoors, outdoors? Are you a vegetable gardener? Can you grow in soil or does having stringent parameters in hydro interest you?

Enjoy the addiction and don't be shy about killing a few plants. Finally you learn from every single table. The more tables the more you learn, GO!

You don't need much for 1 plant. A light, decent soil, some liquid nutrients, and the ability to give the plant absolute darkness. It's really not hard. It's called "weed" because it grows like a weed, it will grow in spite of you in fact.

I'm coming into this completely ignorant. The furthest thing I've ever done to growing a plant is me finding a few seeds in my grind, putting them in wet paper towels, them sprouting; just for them to die in a few pots with soil. I'd like to grow indoors. I've been trying to learn about growing mushrooms and microgreens too. I'm basically trying to go off grid, plant wise

The most important thing in your indoor grow is your light. Everything else is secondary at first. You can always dim a light but you can never make it brighter. I'd suggest starting with LED although HID hardware is very cheap but LED is the future. What's your life like and how do you see your grow fitting into it? Are you a student that moves a lot? Parent with kids? Retired? What area can you devote to this etc.... You need to discuss how this will fit into your life, do you plan to sequentially grow or have separate areas for different life stages.

So much you get to decide and evolve too. The hobby itself is addictive, best of luck.

My mom has an led light for a salt water aquarium. Might that work?

I have a spare room where I plan to grow mushrooms in as well. It's pretty warm, humid, and the air is stagnat in that room so I've been looking at grow tents

I'm gonna be going to school for IT soon. I think it'll be an online thing. So I'm sure I'll have plenty of time for my new hobby

What does your mom think about it? She'd have to be a partner and financially can you afford it right now? No a reef light will not work. You're looking at about a grand to get started in a way that will allow you to finish. Unless you can use the sun.

PS what would your mom's aquarium do without her light?

Oh I don't live with my mom. She wouldn't be a partner in this or anything like that. She has another light just laying around and I thought I could repurpose it. But the grow kits I've seen already come with a light. I live with my girlfriend who, yeah, supports me and my decisions

Saw this one that seems good

You'd need an actual light to flower with. That's 100 watt, enough to get you to veg...

It says it pulls 100w, you need to look for the draw at the wall. You need more.
  • Lower Cost & Higher Efficiency: High-energy efficiency for 2.75 umol/J only consumes 100W of electricity. More efficient than traditional HID lamps.
Sounds like a higher electric bill at the end of the month lol

Get started for less than 1k, like $250

Yes it is. That's why you may wish to pay for weed until you finish school. For example I could buy a LOT of concentrate out here at $20.00/gram compared to just the electricity on my grow. Anyway it's something to think about
Honestly, yeah, weed is cheap. My only problem is finding a trustworthy source of weed. I'd much rather pay a little extra for some things. I have my card and use medical weed. Medical marijuana I find way less potent than recreational weed. And I can't find good people to buy from. My story above was the last time I bought from someone. I wont buy from him again unless I know for sure it's good stuff
