had a great harvest, only it turned brittle after drying and curing. a great smoke, great flavor. only problem was that is was brittle, crispy like that kinda crumbled in the hands when handled.

anyone got the solution or answer to this? not how to make it not as crispy now, but so the next ones arent as brittle. they were hung for 8 days or so, then put in mason jars and given about 3 hours a day to vent. still, brittle. dont get it.

any thoughts on that?

thanks all.

the buds are too dry. I would add a few drop of water to each jar and then check them about 12 hours later, id too much then you will need to burp them again. careful just a bit o water

good luck

Do you still have any of your leaves?

I put some of my leaves in a ziploc baggy and freeze them. Then if my bud gets a little too dry then I will pull some leaves out and put them in my Mason jars with the buds.

It really moistens them up.

Your dry room actually may be too dry.

I put my buds in my basement where it stays somewhat humid and dark. I will hang dry it until the stems snap right off which takes me about 10- 14 days. Then I will put the buds in mason jars with a couple sets of leaves on the bottom and once or twice a day open the top, remove the buds and place them back in.

All in all the whole process takes a month or sometimes more.
Basically you really want to dry your buds as slow as possible so they don't get brittle like you are experiencing. Some people say to treat the buds as though they are still alive. In doing so the bud will not only dry slowly but they will also burn off any lingering chlorophyl which gives a cleaner/ sweeter smoke :)

I live in a dry climate. My house is usually at around 19-20% RH. When I cure bud I let the (trimmed) buds dry in a cardboard box in my 20% RH for about two days. Then I move them to a closet where I have a humidifier running at 50-55% RH. I leave the buds in there for about another 3-7 days depending on the density of the buds. When they are just about ready they feel a little crispy on the outside with the stems ALMOST ready to snap. I put em in jars at that point then burp as needed. The key is when they get crispy on the outside they are getting close to be put into jars. ...but not too crispy.
