Griner was allegedly caught with some cannabis related products. Whelan was convicted of espionage. Whether he actually was spying is irrelevant at this point. But that's a much more serious offense and not knowing any of the details regarding the behind the scene negotiations it's likely that his release was never on the table. The Russians obviously made it Griner or nothing. There isn't much value keeping Griner but there is value in keeping Whelan as an example to what happens if you get caught spying in Russia.

As for that blount, it does no good to keep him in our prison system when we can use him to get an American citizen back. It's not as if he's the only arms dealer on the planet.

I'm glad she's been released. Anyone that has a problem with it can go suck on rotten eggs.

Right because trading an Arms Dealer for an alleged spy isn’t a more even outcome than an athlete caught with drugs. Makes sense

Who is worried about even, it's not about money. The Marine was most likely CIA and charged for espionage, she was busted for a mistake you might make crossing state lines in America. The arms dealer won't be dealing any arms since he won't have any to sell and most likely helped to weaken the Russian military with corruption. When we have Russia by the balls more, they will become more cooperative and after they toss Vlad out a window, we can get the rest. Whenever we want Russia to feel the pain, Ukraine will be more than happy to provide the service. Once they are desperate enough, they will deal, or they will continue their slide back to the fucking stone age. He is continuing to serve his country was prepared for the risk and ordeal and she is a civilian who broke a minor law and was held as a political hostage over possession of cannabis oil "residue".

She gets this mistreatment because she holds the thoroughly reasonable opinion that the Anthem should not be played before every game. She specifically gives the Olympics a pass.

Sad thing is America’s complacent Republicans swallow that hate.

You don't know anything about the negotiations or even if Whelan was even offered by the Russians.
