Bubba Trouble at My Wonderful, Understanding and Awesome Girlfriend’s House

That out of the way, here’s the rundown.

these were started 9 April indoors, and are moving outdoors tomorrow. They are in 5 gallon fabric pots, in milk crates. Affixed to the tops of the crates are 4 foot tall square tomato cages.

I started LST on these when they were young, and I have flower bearing branches from the first and second nodes nearly horizontal. I have a bunch of LST clips in place to get more branches away from the main stalk so should be a pretty full canopy top to bottom.

I am going to direct as many branches as I can to the outside of the cage and let them turn 90 degrees to the sun. I will probably stabilize the main stalk with some pipe cleaners to keep it centered in the vertical space.

one of the plants is leaning over in the pot, so I’ll have fun manipulating that one around.

they’ll be in direct sun from around 0900 to 1700 every day, and protected from any critters that might feel like catching a buzz. I’d be okay if they’d just invite me out to stoke a bowl with them, but they never ask.

my mentor here grew some Bubba Trouble recently and It got to around 6’ tall. I’m hoping for 5’, and flowers all around the edges of the tomato cages. Will take some persistence and patience, but I’m retired and this is my favorite hobby, among many.

Here they are under a Phlizon my girlfriend‘s extra special and wonderful boyfriend gave her for her orchid corner.

she took an old window, painted the eagle on one side, mirrored the back, cut a hole in a door, framed it in and trimmed it out too. Wonderful.

Oh I am so gonna get me some of those pots and tomato cages now that I actually see them together. Compared to having to do the pipe cleaner jungle that I always end up with that looks so simple and efficient. Plus it looks like it would really help run 4 plants in my tent by controlling the spread some. The freaking bubba kush clone this run ended up over 3 feet wide no matter what I did to it. LST, super cropped..still 3 feet wide x 2 feet. Can't wait to see bubba trouble run outside, the terps on her are fantastic. Just finished a bowl of it a minute ago and I'm having trouble typing. Just be ready to tie up some big colas because each of mine were bigger than soda bottles and those were indoor girls. Order that thick plastic coated wire now bud

Yep, the milk crates and tomato cages are now the standard for me. I have 4 more cages to use on the four plants I have at home, but don’t think they need them…

you could space the crates out in a tent, and build a scrog net a gross the tops of them too…I’ll be brainstorming how to do that next.

Here they are under normal light, and the eagle without the Phlizon blaring behind it. The GF will come up someday and paint one on whatever you want.

I'm loving the painting. I have a couple really old windows with frames I picked up thinking that I'd put mirror glass in some day for something different. It would be really cool to have one painted instead. By the way it was really nice of you to volunteer for your girlfriend, most likely without asking her lol.

She might be willing to paint an eagle on one of the windows ya have there...in the meantime, she fed the Bubba Troubles today (FF Wk 5) and decided to keep them inside another day since the wx sucks here today. Looking the forecast, I think they'll be moving outdoors on Tuesday; mid 80s and sun all day. Rest of next week looks pretty optimum as well. they are gonna grow into the cages quickly for sure!

You better be careful having her feed them, pretty soon she's gonna have her own grow going and you're going to lose your backup location.Looking at those orchids I bet she'd grow some dank buds. Possible growing contest this summer for round two??

we will have a contest to see who has the greenest thumb for sure. The weather was spotty for the last couple days so they had an extended hiatus inside; just moved them outside for the summer. she has a screened porch that will be a shelter from heavy rains and wind, but they are gonna get natural light exclusively from here on out.

the tomato cages are gonna come in handy as they stretch - they just showed some preflowers so I’m hoping they grow to the height of the top of the cages. Couple thoughts on further training:

1). Keep pulling branches outside the perimeter of the cage and let them turn upwards. Probably the best approach if ya have unlimited space for lateral growth.

or

2). Keep all the branches interior to the cage and tie them off as they grow in height. Probably the best approach if ya have limited space laterally (in a tent for instance) and need to keep them vertically oriented

another idea would be to space the crates out, and build a PVC frame to zip tie to the tops of top of all 4 cages, then string some line in both directions to build a SCROG net…I’ll give that some more thought…

They look so good out in the natural light. Bet the next couple months are going to be fun!

Yep, gonna be a fun time…they are stretching horizontally and vertically, and will be above the tops of the tomato cages in the next few days I think - full sun and temps in the upper 80s. Installed some stakes to support the main stalks and did a little defoliation of damaged leaves. Lots of lateral stretch that will be supported by the cages when the branches become laden with flowers.

I have around 100ml of food left after feeding the 4 plants that goes to a black bat flower we’ve been trying to grow for a couple years…finger crossed…

also been boosting the flowering nutes for a bottle brush bush that seems to like them…

Check out Tip-pot. Crate with a fabric pot and trellis system. I used one a while back

Looking forward to the club like colas she's going to put on outdoors. Indoors I had the biggest colas I've ever had from an auto with Bubba Kush and they were in 3 gallon pots except one that was in a 5. Your's are looking super healthy and off to a great start. I'm betting you'll be surprised by the yield on these . You are going to be sitting on a very stuffed drying cabinet this harvest season . I've never seen the black bat bush before, that's pretty cool. I have butterfly bushes for hummingbirds and burning bushes for berries for the birds. Everything else is pretty much mountain laurel and native species. I do have a couple rose bushes for the wife. Not as many as I used to as the humidity took a few out with black spot mildew. I'm not quite the outdoor gardener I used to be now that I focus on indoors in so much.

They are stretching pretty heavily now…I suspect they will reach the tops of the cages in a few days. I hope the match your results; one of my favorite flavors…thanks!

some light defoliation and another shot of Nectar for the Gods; stuff seems to be pretty effective but damn it is alot of stuff in one shot…like 10 or 11 ingredients.

couple branches broke so used painters tape to set them straight - no biggie…

they look pretty spooky in the twilight with a flash…

Zermatt, Phoenix and Sundance are standing guard…

Two of them are now taller than The tomato cages…coaxed some branches under the lateral parts of the cages, amd gonna let them rest for a while. The tops are the most vivid lime green I’ve ever seen…not sure if that a good or bad thing, time will tell…

They look great, did the FF schedule say to switch to bloom right at the first sign of flowers? It might be that light green at the tops because she stretched so hard and fast she burned through too much nitrogen. It's too early for any other deficiency to pop up I'd think. I try to keep feeding grow nutes until at least after the stretch is over then I'll go 50/50 for the next feed and then start bloom nutes after that. That's with dry amendments. It helps to keep them green and growing strong through the stretch and prevent robbing N from the lower leaves like they'll do if they have to. Everybody times their switch differently I know but this seems to work out pretty well for indicas. She looks great and the buds are going to be bending branches before you know it.

I’ll switch back to a bloom mix for a couple feedings. They did get a bit darker today, and are muchly enjoying a light evening rain…

The GF dragged them inside the other night before a storm thunderstorm rolled thru…we had a deluge over about a 2 day period amd they stayed inside under a Phlizon light in the orchid corner. The crates make it much easier to cart them around.

strong sun all day long predicted all the way out to Wed, then 2 days of thunderstorms. Spent some time pulling branches down under the lateral parts of the tomato cages and moved some LST clips around to get big fan leaves out of the way and start some new growth branches headed horizontal…this is gonna be epic.
