Bubblelicious & White Widow

Hello everybody,

First of all, thanks for dropping by. I'm currently growing 3 plants: 2 Nirvana Bubblelicious and 1 (supposedly) White Widow. All of them are 3 weeks into vegging (now beginning of 4th), applied Uncle Ben's 4 tops technique about a week ago. All the plants were 6-7 nodes big when they were topped.

I noticed some interesting facts, especially about the growth pattern of the Bubblelicious. It seems that for this species, the 4 top technique redistributed the growth hormones to mostly the last 2 nodes, and the first 2 remained kind of undeveloped and small. However, from the second set of what should have been the 2 main colas, small shoots started to emerge. This is totally odd behavior, at least that's how it looks for me. I made the mistake of topping at transplant time, and that might have fucked up their cycle a bit, but I'm not very sure of it, as the previous Bubblelicious I had also was very bushy with no technique applied at all.

The white widow however responded normally (it was not transplanted yet, just started in a slightly bigger container). It has a yellow stain on one leaf, but it's only isolated to that leaf...

The 2 bb's are in 11 L pots, in BioBizz All-Mix with added perlite for better drainage. The WW is currently in a lower quality soil, but will be moved into a soil with more perlite added. This soil is slightly acidic (ph 5-5.5) and seems to perform better than BioBizz...? I'm using General Hydroponics Flora Nova Grow + Bloom + Ripen. Currently just grow, of course. I only used about 2/3 of the recommended dose, so I don't think a nutrient lockup is the cause of the strange growth. The plants were all started on 5 20W CFLs for the first 3 weeks of their lifes, moved under a 250W HPS light on 18/6 cycle the other day. Same cycle was used with the CFLs, as well. Attached pics below.

Let me know what you think (sorry about the pictures quality, gotta get a new camera one of these days). Cheers!

Hello all you guys,

Hope all has been well. Just got home and took a pic of my plants on their end of 4th veg week. I'm thinking leaving them one more before switching on to 12/12, but I hope they just won't get extremely big. What do you think?

Because of the fast growth I experienced with the BBs with 2 of the main colas, I chose to fim those large shoots so that the smaller ones could catch up. It did work pretty well, the plant responded very healthy, and it has bushed up alot. The canopy baseline is very low, meaning that all the shoots start from about the same level, and very close to the ground. This is very good for me, because the max height I have in there is of about 80 cm (with the lamp in its highest position). This brings me back to my question: I wonder if the colas won't get too big if I leave them one more week.

WW: (not looking very hot, might die at some point, but will keep it in there anyway. same top/fim techniques were applied, but a lower quality soil.)

Started from seed. I don't have the patience nor the time to keep clones for such a long time :)

Good to see you around, Joe!

One week passed by, lots of stuff going on, both work and off-work related. My girls are looking better than ever at the end of this 5th week. Nutrients were switched to 55%/45% grow/bloom at the beginning of the last week, and lights turned to 12/12, because I was worried about them getting way too big. Turns out I did just fine turning the switch. Today the first hairs appeared on the BBs (both girls, which was expected, since the seeds were femmed). The WW was thrown out, along with the remaining seeds. Hermie all over again, this time the balls were very hanging, so I had the time of pulling it out before it was too late.

Enough blabbering, I'm gonna let you enjoy the pics now. Sorry about the camera again :-(

Forgot to mention that the bigger branches were fimmed (twice), in order to keep the canopy even. And even so, in the last few days it has un-evened a bit, but I'll just rotate them every few days and everything should be just fine. I'm more than curious on the yield of these babies. After this, it will be genetics renewal time, still deciding though...
