Bubbleponics/Fox Farm Questions

I recently built a bubbleponics system, and I believe i have everything I need to get started, but I have some questions regarding Fox Farm's feeding schedule.

It says at the top to "Use Solubles with every feeding". Listing Open Seasame, Beastie Bloomz, and Cha Ching.

What does this mean, and is it necessary to use these three fertz with there feeding system. I currently have Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, and Big Bloom, which is listed on the chart as Hydroponics systems feeding schedule.

I wish I would have saved the doc so I could post it.

No, you do not have to use the supplements(boosters).
I am using the same trio and it seems to work well.
You got the GrowBig for "Hydro" right?

You can get the feeding chart off their website.
I have the used the full FF line, including: Seasame, Beastie Bloomz, and Cha- Ching. It makes a big difference with the size and resin content of your buds. I'd recommend you get those as well. They will last you numerous grows. Keep in mind that Cha-Ching will drop your pH thru the floor. You'll need plenty of pH up when using it.

Do they mean by "solubles" as it is a powder and not a liquid?

How often did you check your PH when using Cha-Ching?

yeah, I might try them on my next grow.
I am doing a DWC setup, but just a 2 gallon with one plant.
The other plants are in soil.
I can use the solubles in soil too right??

Sure, you can use them in soil as well. They post both feeding schedules on their website. Just use the FF chart for your soil grows instead of the hydro formula.

How often do you put in new nutrients? weekly? every few days?
Well, I'm going to follow the Fox Farm feeding schedule, and from what I understand that you change the nutrients weekly. But what I don't understand, is what you do throughout the week, as the water level gets lower. Do you add straight water? or do you just let it go until the next week?

According to the fee schedule you only need to drain the reservoir every two weeks.

Could someone PM that is willing to help me get this straight?

I change it every week, but my one little dwc is only about a gallon of nute water.

You will need to adjust the mix according to what your plants are asking for by watching the PH.
If it keeps creeping up then I add more nutes to the water.
If it goes down then I dilute it a bit.

That is what I will document in my notes next time is:

PH and ppms vs. stage of growth, plant height and strain. notes on root mass should be useful.

Don't go by the FF schedule for reservoir changes. The first res change in 2-3 weeks is okay. Then it should be changed weekly. Let it set empty for 30 minutes or so and it gives extra O2 to the roots and you'll see a grow spirt the next day or two.

Just add pH adjusted 6.5 water without nutes thru the week to replace the water the plants drink. I pH the water before I add it to the tank Then, in an hour or so, I check it and might have to adjust the pH again. As long as it's in the 5.5-6.5 range (and it will wander), you're good. You need to check the ph DAILY and ONLY adjust it if it gets out of the 5.5-6.5 range. Too much adjusting can kill your plants quickly.

Thanks for the help.

What if at the end of a week, the FF schedule calls for a change in nutrient amounts, and not a reservoir change, like you say, you could wait 2 or 3 weeks, how do you add the "new" strengthened nutrients? Do you let the water level go down to 3 gallons out of the 6 total when full, and then just fill back 3 gallons?

Does that questions even make sense?

Bump... I never got my questions answered, so I will try again.

When you look at the Fox Farm feeding schedule, you can see that Week 1 and Week 2 are identical amounts of nutrients. My questions is how to do you add the week 2 nutrients? For example, say Monday is your first day of week two, how would you add the nutrients? Since you don't do a reservoir change, how do you add the new nutrients? Do you just dump them right into the reservoir?

Here is the Fox Farm Feeding schedule: http://www.foxfarmfertilizer.com/hydrofeed.pdf

I am not sure exactly what they mean either.
In my limited experience, what I do is try and read(from the plants) what they are in need of, and add those kind of nutes to bump the ppm up to what allows the ph to be stable.
Then every couple weeks, I do a comeplete res. change any way.
Most of my plants are in soil, but my dwc is only a 2 gal bucket with 1 gal of solution, so I just lift the bucket lid up and set it on an empty bucket and then adjust the nutes and ph the modified mix. Then put the roots back in the nute water after its adjusted to ph 5.8
I have been using the trend in ph as a guide as to how many ppms to maintain ie.
PH keeps going up - raise ppms
PH goes down - lower ppms.
BigBloom doesnt seem to affect ppm level much as compared to Growbig and Tigerbloom.
I hope this helps some.

Is there anyone out there that uses the Hydro Fox Farm line of products? I still have some questions regarding reservoir changes and adding nutrients.

I'm hoping not to have to start anew thread....

Premix the solution in a bucket or another res and then use that ph'd and nuted water to fill up ur main res when you feel the need to. Remember when ur roots get longer it's fine to have the water level down so the roots get more air.
