Bubbler slow start

so im running a brummie bubble setup, i reached 35 degrees for a day in the early stages of veg gave two plants heat stress (oroginally had to pots in the one res) the one died but this one survived but really has been a slow grower, all my temps are steady now and the roots are starting to take to the RES allthough im already 3weeks and 1 day into Veg.

i usuallt give 4 weeks. Is it ok to give them more time? because i dont see this plant being ready to turn in 6 days. Or should i cut my losses and start again or stick it out and see how it goes?

How are you feeding the plant?

FYI media outside the net pot is unnecessary
At the minimum there on silver bullet, take root, A&B, recently added Cal/Mag and multi total, EC 1.2

done well in the past but this plantnot taking to it so much. Please not i only added the cal mag and multi total to the mix recently and the plant seems to have responded well.

what do you mean on the second part? Media? Sorry could you dumb it down a little bit for me

cheers mate

yes the media outside the net pot is not necessary

I have no idea what silver bullet and take root are.

1.2 EC is too heavy for this stage of growth. Simply not enough leaves or roots to support more than 0.5 EC. I don't hit 1 EC until switching lights to flower

Ok ill dilute my res down a bit. never had issues before running the exact same feed but maybe i guess iv been lucky previous times and had strong plants.

and sorry but im not sure what “media outside the netpot” means, never heard these terms used before if you could help me out plz buddy

cheers mate

Ohh haha, say i dont even know what a net pot is lol
They're like a plant pot from 2" - 10" or so but the bottom half is so full of holes it's like a net to hold those hydroton balls and let the roots grow out into a pail or tub of nute solution usually with an airstone or two going to get oxygen to the roots. DWC is a prime example.

So do you just have a container of balls and do a drain to waste thing? I can't tell how your setup works. I've done a lot of DWC grows in RubberMaid tubs so know how those work.

Looks good so far.

The rectangle pot has loads of holes in the bottom, obviously fill the res to just below the bottom of the pot, drip feed circulates the water down so hits the roots. Althoygg once the roots are established 50% people say to lost the drip feed as not needed. They call it a brummie bubbler i believe mate last couple i done really well. Just not sure wether to start again. Does it matter if i veg for longer to give them time to grow?

Yes the drip ring looked like the lip of a net pot

Now imagine having ~ 10" net pot/s, or if using the tray then Air Pots, would air-prune, which would stop the roots from growing outside the AP. You would still use drip rings. FYI Hydro Halo Drip Rings have slots for risers which help hold them in place and allows the nutes to splash on the top of the media

or switch it to a simple and inexpensive DIY F & D

For my DWC I never used top feed. When I put the clones in the pots with the balls I would use a turkey baster to suck up som of the nutes from the tub and squirt it down the pot to keep the roots moist for a couple days until roots came out of the net pots then no more top feed ever. No pumps or stuff in the tubs either like @PhatNuggz shows. Just 2 - 12" aquarium airstones to bubble lots of air in the tubs.

Those are the net pots. 5" ones there.

Roots.jpg

An experiment I did mixing some ProMix soilless with the balls to sprout seeds right in the pots and grow 12 plants SoG style. Worked out not bad. Note the extra hole for adding water, taking samples etc. Just rented a hole saw from the tool place in town to cut holes for the 3.5" net pots used in that lid. The lid is sitting on an empty tub so I could pour water thru to wash out any loose ProMix before setting it on the tub to the left.

TubsWithAirStones.jpg

I always start my clones or those seeds at around 300ppm/0.6EC then once they have decent leaves going and good roots in the water add small amounts of nutes to double that then raise the ppm as they get bigger and start growing fast. I would never go over 1000ppm/2.0EC unless they were heavy feeders and my humidity, (RH), was decent. At low RH the plants drink lots more water and then I might only be 0.8EC to prevent toxic salts buildup.

Root rot is easy to get going in these things so I used to use 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide twice a week to prevent it. I used 0.5ml/L each dose but if root rot is starting then 2.0ml/L and up to 4.0 daily to kill it off. I made a chiller out of an old water cooler and then no more peroxide. I could keep the nute temp to 65F - 68F and never had rot.

Good luck!

Whats peoples thoughts on veging for longer? Is it ok to veg for say 5/6 weeks to give the plant time to catch up?

And flood totes are . . . ?
I have to use covered totes and rez due to heavy mosquito population in hot summer months

Note ZERO air stones the rez. I replaced them with a pump on a timer injecting into the plastic bottle that has drilled holes to spray which both circulates and aerates the nutes

3 adjustable valves to control i/o flow

Ah. Lot more plumbing and stuff involved than just regular DWC. I aim for max simplicity myself.

As long as it works for you. What was the problems with mosquitoes?

Yes you can veg longer. There is no set amount of weeks where you switch your plants. Some people veg a few weeks and flip while others veg for months.

@xtsho has it right. I've vegged for almost a year once and when doing ScroG easily go 3-4 months vegging. I veg too much most of the time. I have 18 plants that have been sitting in little 3" square nursery pots since last July. I really need to do something with them soon.

What are your plans for training etc? I would top it at least so it doesn't get too tall when it goes to flower. She looks stretchy.

Yeah someone else said that it looks like ots stretchng early on. Ill top it later today when im home from work and thanks about the info on vegging. Put me at ease a bit. Will just stick with it :-)
