I know I would need to solder but I do not have a background in any wiring or electronics, so it seems a bit over my experience.
Actually, you don't need to solder. Take a look at http://www.modularled.ca They have connectors...and complete kits.

I'm just guessing on the size of two rubbermaids since I don't know - 10 inches wide by 15 inches long by 20 inches tall ? You could diy a panel just an inch or so smaller in length/width so it fits inside well and allows good air movement and leaves some height for your plants. You might be able to use one of their kits (talk with them about your horticultural spectrum requirements) and then you don't need to even spec drivers or anything. If you want to do one of their supplemental kits - here's a reasonable place to get a heatsink. heatsinkusa.com

About 30W actual draw. You can use 3W diodes if you want, but I used 1W's and actually I underpowered the Whites/Blues to run everything on a single driver. 225mm x 200mm. The Aluminum is sturdy enough, it supports its own weight, etc. but you could easily bend it by hand if you tried. I suggest a heat sink that's slightly larger than the heatsink core to add some durability. That, or at least an Aluminum backing (quarter size baking sheet?) that you can mount the heatsink core onto and then build your own makeshift heat sink on the back of that.

You can see the raised portions and how all the LED's are run in series via a very simple circuit underneath the Black paint. Pretty much a clone of Knna's layout that allows for easy soldering. If you reference the first picture you can see how you just solder two wires to the heatsink core (two tabs for the positive terminal I'm guessing in case two wires can't fit through one of the holes because of the gauge of wire, and then one tab for negative).

I probably used too many Blue LED's so I might order a few more Warm Whites or 630nm Red's to take their place, but it's hard to tell since the Blue's will be under driven. Anyway, hope this helps.

Btw, check out induction lighting. Looks very cool. Lots of stuff on eBay for pretty cheap.

I guess based on my confusion I need to re-read all the basics on lights and then re-read all the DIY led info. I have my container system figured out, just need a bit more time to get this all squared

Very cool grow, imo. I'm considering it myself for veg and to fill out the spectrum of bloom panels that I'm building.

If you're not feeling LED's those flouro's that you're eying should work well, too. You could probably grab a few 4000K-6500K CFL's in an E26 base at Home Depot to string up for veg and then a 150W HPS system for flower. I'm guessing that'd still be right around your budget.

Idk. All in all -and imho- Watts are pretty much Watts at this point. Get as many Watts per dollar as you can (keeping heat mitigation in mind) and go for it. I mean obviously don't get 1000 Watts of Green LED's, but you get my drift. It's more important that whatever you buy feels right to you. Buyer's remorse sucks majorly, but sometimes you just gotta go with what's available. I read a comment about how LED's are like smartphones and the technology is constantly evolving so today's bleeding edge isn't necessarily tomorrow's. Does it really matter much when we're growing buds adequately today? I mean results are results. Grow while you can with what you can to the best of your ability and save your pennies for "the day." There is no best answer, there's just too many variables.

Just my two cents.
 
If you are on a real budget you could try building one of these? white light rather than red/blue but so are CFL's, and HPS are too (really, they are) as are MH. $0.60 per watt isn't bad, and with 3w diodes.

Just dump around 300 usd on a van q 300w light aka sold as budzilla`a for $1200 you get a 3 year warranty and it gives the same kind of light intensity as a 600w hps with far less heat

Budget another 300 usd for all the other bits and go with soil and either 15L pots or 30L sacks for the 1st grow.

I feel like Shenzen were the ppl that did "Black Dog," "Lighthouse Hydro," and are now "Blackstar"

They give just enough information about the light to not scare you off, They may produce decent lights..but they're approach with wayyy to many different names does not make me feel safe purchasing one..I wouldn't know where to go with a warranty.

Man if you've gotten results with these lights, PLEASE- post and let me know. Personally, I think you've been taken for. Happens to all of us, my first grow light, ever; was a 90w UFO LED, biggest fucking scam ever- but.

Those lights or at least the budzilla ones are supposedly good. But 72 diodes in a module is rediculous though. I don't like that about them either.

Only buy from hydro hut if you want a loud led or you want it to break down and them not hold up their warranty. They are shady and lie about what parts they use .

Those are not plasma. Just over priced induction bulbs. Check out lvd lighting or gladiator lighting.

Cant wait till real plasma get down to dollar a watt. Anyway, I tried most lighting, I tried induction. I got my inductions for vegging. When using them they didn't compare to my 8 lamp only using 2 lamp T5 at 112w. The t5 beat the 2 50w induction lights by light coverage and actually node spacing growth. But, I stopped using both of those for vegging, now I strictly use a 140w true power draw chinese led, that thing is a vegging monster. Can flower too, if you put 4-6 together, beats a 600w hid no problem. Still use my t5 for seedling runs though.

For flowering you can use anything you want. SInce you want a 139 induction bulb, if it was me, I would take my 139 dollars and get a 139 dollar led. You can get a $1 a watt blackstar knockoff. Depending on your height, that thing will beast your 1 plant at 5-6 inches away. You could maybe get away with 2 plants under it at higher up, but the power goes away with this model no lenses. Which is a good thing for small stealth grows, means you can get it real close without burning.

Did you ever try the higher watt induction from them? Like the 200w or 300w.
Sorry, no I didnt, I only needed the induction to veg mothers for clones. Thought I could get away with 100w worth of induction, but LED let me veg my 2x2.5 mother area way better, close to the growth of my t5 when it was using all the bulbs.

Look I had mine made to my spec`s

45mil chips with 90" lens`s I had them get chips that were a 5:1 red to blue ratio, My vanq`s are set up for flowering but you can veg under them, there`s no deep red and no uv and no white you get all of that from an induction or cfl or even a HID if you want all that heat.

There set up for one reason they give loads of Par and they penetrate well over 2m you can treat them just like a hps but way less heat I can veg under just my induction or cfl and then just use them for flower.

I did a grow with normal led lights 2 x 300w panels and about 300 to 400w of cfl, I pulled the led panels out and installed 2 of the vanq`s and a matter of days the weed frosted over like crazy.

I`m doing a run right now on them but still vegging some stuff up now but I have 5 auto`s just popping now and I`m vegging some cotton candy, skywalker kush and jackwidow.

Just waiting for some clones to root and them boom we flip to flowering and I know I`m on for a batch that`s better then the last one and I`ve seen no weed in London this year that was better then my last batch of Auto AK, and I know a load of people that smoke a ton of weed all of them have been put to bed by the last batch.

Anyway I`ll post up something when they flower

Oh also I hear Vanq are working on a 400w model


As far as induction is concerned the best lights come out of china at the moment everyone is buying there`s from china no need to waste money just buy a 3000k one it`s so much cheaper.

Could you pls advise me-
I have been reading up on induction, led etc... trying to work out what would be the best choice for my needs.
Basically I want to illuminate 1.2 x 1.2 for veg primarily, with using as little power draw as possible, (2m high tent) so I am liking the look of the way you have been able to get such good par at hight with your vanq300 specs.
Although this would be a dedicated veg area, there is a very high possibility that I may use this led in the flower area during the hotter months, swapping it around with 400w cmh that accompanies the magnum plus2. I originally planned to use only led and do away with the hids but it is too cold so one led one cmh, instead of 2 cmh, which gets vented into the led veg area to give the veg area some heat too should be the winter recipe. I am pretty much decided on vanq for my veg area purchase, I like the idea of hanging the lights up high with the high par ratio to be able to veg 1.2 x 1.2 with just 275w, but I was wondering should I maybe get more blue spectrum for my specific situation?
