Calcium carbonate for raising ph

Overtime peat moss breaks down and becomes more acidic. Im not trying to over calcium up the soil. But can eggshell (calcium carbonate) be used to raise soil ph? To add at the point of when peat turns acidy. Shell takes a long time to break down and the plant should be finished and harvested before a calcium overdose occurs right? The effect of lime can be mimicked for cheap? Ground up shell, watered down into the soil. Is what Im thinking. Any of you have experience with this?

To a point. Peat takes time to breakdown. Your not going to get that in 1 use......More like a year of use through re-use. Not only that but the amount of Ca at build/re-amend time should cover that...

Egg shell is more a Ca supplement and an effective "buffer" (pH) in soils.
I use it in building soils to replace Dolomite Lime because Dolo carries a healthy % of Mg. Most built soils get enough Mg from other sources.
An exception to that would be FF soils - especially Ocean Forrest! I find OF as needing about a good handful (1/3 to 1/2 cup) per bag mixed in well. I also find OF as being a tad P&K heavy......

If eggshells are blended in a blender how long for it to become available to the plant?

You can speed release of calcium by mixing the dust with equal parts white vinegar. It will fizz and expand. The ph will become neutral. Then you mix it with water and apply. Mabey as soon as the next day.

He got the quick and easy application form ^^^^. The fast acting way to battle def's in organics.

Same as any other powdered Ca when used at the build..... I like Garden gypsum and that contains another Ca source.

If I added egg shells and didn't have any deficiencies would that create a problem? Running a supersoil version now

Peat should be fortified with calcium carbonate unless your plan is hempy buckets with pure hydro nutes. In that case, don't add calcium carbonate.
